ZL1 Winter Tire Storage (Poll)
hey everyone,
Just want to get an idea of what people are doing with their Summer tires in the winter. I started a new topic because I want to add a poll and get some voting going. the first option was meant to say "drive after the tires slowly come to the appropriate temperature". ran out of characters. |

I just put mine on some high desity insulation (1/2" pink). A member on here made the suggestion in a thread. I figured for $13 bucks i cant go wrong and i have my garage set at 50*F.

Live in Houston; on the few winter days when the temp drops below 40, I'll just drive my truck...

It was 81 degrees here in Austin yesterday. I really feel for you guys with this problem. Not being able to drive my baby for months at a time would really suck.

I bought the thick exercise mats at wal mart to park the tires on while she sleeps for the winter. I agree with ********** for the price it can't hurt. My garage isn't heated but am thinking about it. The garage seems to be too damp.

agreed with the damp problem......last year, had two old cars stored in unheated garage (Chicago winter).....both covered, but after a temp change, both cars were so wet, looked like I had washed them; this year, they are in heated storage, but the ZL1 is now up to the challenge.....

I bought some 12"x12" Cork Tiles (Flipside brand) from Hobby Lobby. They come in a 4 pack for $12. I haven't used them because I sold my car before winter storage came.
My wife says that supposedly cork stays at a fairly ambient temperature. She took the cork from a wine bottle and left it on the cold garage floor and the cork felt much warmer compared to the floor. I guess there's a whole thing about storing wine bottles with cork, for heat, cold humidity etc... She also saw something similar on This Old House show about cork flooring.... It also has some sort of structural stabilty, in that, it won't crush, deteriorate easily etc., so hopefully it can withstand the weight of the car... |

I chose option 3, but the tires may have to come off before storage.
I don't have spare wheels, and I'll be driving mine (when I get it) in Colorado snow during the winter. So far we have had ZERO snow on the roads in Colorado Springs, but it happens soon I expect. I'll be on some all weathers for the duration of winter. I'ts OK, I like playing in snow, but not when I'm in traffic. I'll just be careful.

I have too many toys in my single car garage so my car is outside but covered. It's in a carport type garage and the car itself is covered inside it as well. I used flooring underlayment that I have left from when I installed my kitchen floor and I set it under all the wheels. That will work for now to keep the major cold off the tires.

I chose option 5. Sent it to the performance shop for the winter where it is getting modifications and stored inside. Going to be awesome when I pick it up in the spring!

My car was stored under snow in the Oshawa parking lot last winter. I know what the manual says but I just can't believe its going to make a huge difference, many of us must have bad tires. What's the worst I can expect in cold storage?

I'm just parking it in the garage, any day it gets above 40 degrees I'm taking it for a drive.
