Supercharger coolant check.

Just pulling my car out of storage and was wondering how often do I need to be checking the supercharger coolant? When you twist the fitting and remove the cap should coolant be visable? (Cold unstarted motor). Have not done anything yet but want to go over the car before I start driving her this season.

Glad you brought this up, I have been meaning to post about this subject.

This should be treated like any other fluid level and checked at every oil change interval or before any track event.

We have found several cars with low coolant levels, when the coolant level gets low the pump won't run causing very high IAT and low performance.

The computer protects the engine through IAT 2 sensor and pulling all the timing.

Any time the system has been opened/Drained, it should be Vacuum bleed of air.

If the pump senses no load/AIR the pump will cease to run to protect it self from burning out.

So if you change a part in the system i.e heat exchanger, coolant reservoir, pump upgrade, it is imperative that proper fill procedures are done.

Ted.

Thank you Ted for the interval advice. But I am still unclear as to the level. My car is stock with just a Roto Fab cai. Do I just fill to the fitting and pinch the hoses for air burp? My car has not been started since last Oct so I figured that would this would be a great time to check.

Hey Ted. How do you remove the cap? I turned the fitting to the upright position and turned cap counter clockwise. It will not remove. Bit confused.

If you turn it to the right spot, you'll see the clip that holds it on expand. Then pull the cap off. Easy.

It should be filled with Dexcool? Is this done when cold and the engine off?

Edit, I topped it off it was a bit low after dealer replacement of the supercharger.

The coolant level should be at the bottom of the goose neck (which is still visible) if that makes sense.

Edit: to the bottom of the filler cap.

Where do you check the coolant level of the s/c?

The upper hose attached to the front of the supercharger lid is where the filler neck is located. It's usually turned sideways. Just turn it right side up, remove the purple clip to take the cap off and boom.. there it is.

Got the cap off and she was looking good! Dex-cool was right at the bottom of the cap. I did call Janetty racing to ask the proper way to remove the cap. Once Nick explained that when you twist the cap look for the snap ring to expand then stop turning and gently pull up. His advice worked like a charm and he was very nice to speak to! Great helpful and polite staff you have Ted!
