Nice improvement

I put on an Fastlane Pipeline on my completely stock 2012 SS. Like everybody else I looked at Jannety's excellent tests, and the GM High Tech article. In addition I had an 02 Z06 in the past that I put a vararam on and it really woke that car up. Along with a Lightning that I had a box similar to the CAI with a huge cold air vent. And a an 01 Cobra with just a K&N. All of them were a huge improvement.

I wanted to point out that I felt that the magazine article wasn't fair because of the difference in temperatures. But that is also a real test, which means more to me than a dyno pull. What I really looked at was temp delta after the run compared to ambient. This would show that stock sucks hot air and most of the others were an improvement. This coincides with improvements that others are seeing with different intakes.

I'm running without a tune, but did reset the LTFT's, after a run. Interesting that at 4650 hz and above the STFT were significantly increased, which also shows higher density air delivered. On the street, it showed 0-2 degrees above ambient. When I punched it traction control took on a whole new meaning. I can't believe how much more torque is being delivered. I'll run it for a tank to let the LTFT's settle (which were all high because of the cold air with a stock intake), then log the KR and fuel trims.

So in the end I just wanted to say that I think that most of the intakes probably do very well compared to stock in actual driving conditions. For those on the fence with an intake. Do it, and enjoy more power.

Thanks Striker... So how do you like the vararam compared to the pipeline?

I also forgot to mention that it sounds much nicer than stock. When you hammer down, you can hear the engine a little better.

I noticed the exact same thing with my pipeline. I actually have a weird misfire problem with the pipeline + ported TB and traction control on. If I punch it... it just hesitates and makes no power. With the TC off, on the other hand, it runs perfectly. The power gain is very apparent. Really nice upgrade for the money.

BTW. Add the 3" exhaust note, and I'm down to 4/32" after 10,000 miles.

I'm not quite sure yet. At first the Vararam felt no different than the pipeline intake but that was expected within the first few miles. It might be mental but after 100 or so miles the car seems to have woken up and adjusted to the Vararam. The car is responding well while on the highway at higher speeds. I purchased the Vararam with the sole purpose to try it out at the drag strip this Friday so I should be able to tell the difference then.
