Mobil 1 Oil Filter leaking ?

Has anyone had any leaking issue with they filter? Specifically a Mobil 1?

Im using the M1-113 Oil Filter and i put it on hand tight and put new oil it, let car run for 10-15 minutes to warm up and check for leaks. I noticed a very tiny amount of oil that had run down my filter and pooled up a little on the bottom of my filter... not enough to drip on to the floor though.

I tightened it a little more but with a oil filter tool... wiped it off good and started it again for 10-15 minutes... Same thing.

Is M1-113 not the correct Mobil 1 Filter for the V8 engine ??
Any thoughts or Ideas?

The M1-113 Mobil 1 oil filter is the correct filter for the V8 engines.

I had to replace the PF48 oil filter the service department installed during my Camaro's first oil change because it was leaking. I tried to tighten the PF48 filter and it did not stop leaking. I could not find the "leak source" after I removed the PF48 filter.

I installed the M1-113 filter and tightened it about 3/4 turn (by hand) after the initial gasket contact. The M1-113 filter has been leak free since it was installed 7/7/2009.

my acdelco (factory) filter worked fine, no leak signs.
The M1-113 seems to have stopped now, I hand tightened it as tight as possible and it leaked initially.
Gave it a good snug 1/2 turn with an oil filter tool and same results... just went out and gave it all the might I had to go 1/4 turn more and so far no leak after 20 min run time.

crosses fingers......

I have had problems with AC Delco filters leaking, I think because of a weak base plate design. I switched to WIX filters and have never had another leak.
I use WIX filters on all my cars.

i always spread a layer of grease around the filter gasket.i was told years ago that this helps seal the filter.i've never had a leak on any of my cars.

Sometimes if there is excess oil on the rubber seal of a filter a tiny bit will leak out when it heats up and expands. Usually if you keep an eye on it, it should stop after the first time you drive it.

I wouldn't use an oil filter tool to tighten an oil filter, they are designed to seal hand tight. Clamping them down too much will actually increase the chances of the seal going bad, not to mention make it a pain in the ass to get off the next time. If you had a honest leak from a filter it would be a much better idea to just replace the filter from the start.

Well this is a shot in the dark but did you check if the gasket from the old filter remained on the housing?

The only time I did this a whole lot of oil came out so I doubt that is your problem but still.....

I switched to a Different filter and it solved the issue (from August '2009')
I've always put a little oil on the rubber seal before putting it on as well. I believe the filter was just faulty.

I always tighten them 'hand-tight', then turn it another half-turn with the filter wrench. Filters just tightened by hand can vibrate loose. And always dip your finger in new oil and wet the filter gasket before installing.

Anytime you're changing a screw on fluid filter, like our Camaro oil filters, it's good practice to take some of the new oil and wipe the rubber gasket of the filter with it. A good ring of oil on the filter gasket will help it seal against the filter housing and prevent leaks. If you've already put the filter on and new oil in, there's not much can be done save for draining it again, removing the filter, and wetting the gasket properly. But with the small leak amount you're describing, that may be more trouble than you'er looking for. Hope this helps, and best of luck!
