When you get it, I definitely want to be present when you put some lead down range. It sounds like it's going to be a sweet setup

That's one Sweet Sauer Sig

Speaking of guns... I'm always ribbing my son about his choice of weapon, I love me some 1911... He chucked his Glock in the mud, then rinsed it in the pond..... no boom. I've always heard the stories but never seen it done, just wimpy "OHNOIGOTMYGLOCKALITTLEDIRTYBUTITSTILLFIRES" vids on youtube. He PACKED that sucker with mud! It was hilarious!

Guess I'm gonna have to show him how it's done..... or not.

So, we all know there are things that can't be fixed... Ignorance can be fixed... something else can't...

So, we have a company cementer out here... He works for the Oil company... He's been here two weeks...

He doesn't know which line is the test line for pumping and building pressure to the drill floor...

So... I'm pulling my hair out, since I have to do all but explain how to start the cement unit... I'm not the cementer...

Then there is the test tool brought out by a tool company...

It leaks... So, we have to pull it back to the surface and redress it... and then the oil company, the people calling the shots didn't want to wash down the well head.. so the tool set on cutting just like it always will if you don't wash down... and they wonder why the test tool doesn't work...

Does it ever end...

Yes, the cementer is leaving today... and the guy that actually knows his job will be out here... The tool is being redressed, and we are running a wash tool just under it... we'll wash the well head, and then set the tool... and all of this is because the oil company doesn't have all the casing they need out here and so they are stalling for time.

And MONDAY is my last DAY in this Gosh forsaken hellhole...

I think this may have been asked before (maybe even by me) but what is your official job title/duties on the oil rig?

My Official Title is SubSea Engineer...

My responsibilities are to maintain and test the BOP's, (Blow Out Preventers), the Marine Riser, (the pipe that allows us to run the BOP's down to the sea floor and returns mud to the rig) maintain the Drill String Compensator ( the device that hangs from the crown of the derrick and allows the drill bit to sit smoothly on the bottom of the hole without bouncing as the rig moves and heaves, the diverter, which allows us to redirect and control or "divert" any well bore materials coming out of the hole... The BOP's are roughly 50 ft tall, and weigh in around 400,000 lbs... We pick it up and move it around on the rig as needed to tear it apart and rebuild it... Every EOW... In addition to that, we are responsible for a thousand other things... We are responsible for the hydraulic hoses and a lot of the hydraulics on the rig... The biggest part of this is the Koomey Unit, which controls all of the hydraulic functions on the BOP's and the diverter system... There are around 60 panel valves, POD valves, POD hoses, mixing units, etc... In domestic locations on a small rig like this, there is typically only one Subsea hand on the rig at any given time... In international locations, there are usually two of us... A resident hand (me) and a trainee that works nights...

Remind me when I get home and I'll show you a video of the drill string compensator... It's pretty amazing to see how big it is... The top drive and compensator look like a school bus going up and down.... Everything on the rig is big, heavy and hard... Except us... and we have to remember that all the time,.....
