Ground FX price. Why so expensive?
I know this sounds like a strange question, but when you compare the cost of comparable items, I don't quite get the price of the ground FX package.
I recently had to replace a rocker panel due to curb damage. I picked up both sides for about $100. After doing some research, I found that this is a common price for these pieces. Now, in all reality, the FX pieces of the same side pieces are really the same thing, they're just designed to look different when installed. They're not even really even any lower, they just give the effect of being lower. Now with that being said, the front piece is no bigger than the side pieces (if not smaller), so I would have to give that the same kind of cost. The back may be a little bigger, so I can see that being a little more. I guess what I'm getting at there, is that this whole thing should cost around $500 (again, based on current take off car pieces of the exact same things). And on top of all that... THEY'RE UNPAINTED!! This should reduce the price dramatically. So what makes them worth the $1,000 + I ask?

Supply & demand.
Camaro owners want them and are willing to pay those prices... Side note: Your logic on pricing is a bit off when you consider things like design, R&D, and production... The standard pieces are mass produced, making the cost per unit a lot less. Besides, companies need to make a profit on what they sell.

Exactly -- you paid the price which reinforces their price point. If fewer people buy, the price lowers, but they know they dont have to worry about that.

The thing I've learned is that the OE accessories are generally priced 2-3 times jobber (shop cost) compared to aftermarket selling for 15%-50% over jobber (depending on the product line). The OE mark-up at the dealership covers replacement cost and inventory; in short, when you buy a GM accessories from your dealer, you're paying for the product installed and at least one replacement under warranty.

The GFX package is basically a dealer add-on, and is ridiculously priced like most other dealer add-ons. Another example is the $175 gas door...

Here's the reason why the stock ones were so cheap....
When the dealership puts a ground effects kit on a car on their lot, or on an ordered car they keep the old rockers. They were free to them. Anyone who has bought a car with ground effects that were DEALER INSTALLED has paid for the original rocker panels, and if you don't ask for them back, you will not get them back. Same with the rear diffuser. I'm not even going to talk about the 21" wheel option. Use your imagination.

I'm pretty sure the GFX from GM are not manufactured by GM. When I had to have a piece replaced, the dealership actually ordered it from somewhere in TX. And that one piece was $950.00

Shitty dealers will do that, mine had my stock engine cover, wheels and tires, etc. waiting for me when I took delivery. If they don't give them to you, they stole them, plain and simple.

I was looking through the accessories catalog the other day and I saw that a set of Camaro 21" wheels was $5300. Unbelievable. They weren't that nice.

So many people got screwed out of their original wheels by dealers, it's not even funny.
