Deion was not the total package in terms of a CB and being a great athlete is different from being the best at that position.

Bottom line is everyone has their opinions and no one can really say who the best of all time is. I also had Woodson in mind and when Darrel Green was mentioned there can be an argument made there.
Well you must have been drunk when you were watching them. A DB's primarily responsibility is to prevent passes from being caught, but if they are to tackle the receiver. "Deion got beat his fair share" give me a break. After his year in SF he was rarely thrown at. Hell most teams didn't even run the ball to his side of the field.....

1 side of the field taken away, punts continuously kicked out of bounds. The term "shutdown" corner was coined from his play. None have even come close to filling his shoes. Hell when he first came into the league it was like playing yard ball when you have someone that is soooooo much better than everyone else. Kickoffs squibbed, interceptions by fellow players, what did they do? They ran backwards to find Deion to lateral the ball to him.

I've seen more balls thrown at Woodson, Green, or Chump Bailey in one game than Deion had thrown at him in an entire season.

What you had is maybe a handful of plays where he miffed a tackle and so the garbage spreads.

I'll just leave this here.....

He sure was running fast to tackle someone for someone who doesn't tackle. And if he couldn't/wouldn't tackle why would you put him on kickoff special teams lol.....

Good discussion, but remember my post said "best pure cover guy" and nothing else.

Green certainly is in the conversation as a top 5 all time, and Woodson certainly was a great all around corner that could do it all. Someone mentioned Ed Reed, and if I am in a Superbowl I don't know on defense that I would not take Ed Reed over most anyone because the guy had a supernatural nose for where the ball was going to be, my fav safety ever.

But stop the delusion, Sanders could cover anyone and as a pure cover CB, the best IMO.

This right here is why you're argument is no longer valid. When you have to resort to starting a post with a personal attack against another person before you make a counter argument it says a lot about you. Well done.

'Twas not a "personal" attack. (And I apologize if you interpreted it that way). Trying to understand what state of mind you were in when you were watching a "majority" of his games in which he "couldn't" tackle.

Nor was he a "finesse" cornerback. He was actually the opposite. His speed allowed him to be very physical on the line of scrimmage with the WR.

Yay, I love stats, and how they can be used for, or against you...depending on how you use them.

Something you don't consider, is length of time each played, and how often their side of the field got thrown to...

DS was great, probably the greatest CB....unless he was covering Jerry Rice.

he was good at best. I wouldn't put the tag of "Great" on him. He played for the interception. he was beat a lot more than he made plays on. And there was no way he was ever going to put his head down and make a strong tackle. There were a lot of plays where you see him 'moving' out of the way if FB was coming at him.

Good, yes, his played the ball well. Great, no way. Beat too often, was not an impact hitter/tackler as a CB should be.
