305 rear tires???

Still at least a month before my car gets here, but first thing I'm installing is the 305 tires in the rear. Reason I'm doing it as soon as it lands is because I dont want to put any miles on the 285's, so then I can sell them for a reasonable price. I work at Runde Chevrolet in East Dubuque, IL so I get a pretty good deal on them as I do the ZL1 skirts and diffuser, which will be 2nd install, headers and CAI 3rd. So if anyone has their rear tires burnt off in a month, I'll have a pair for sale!!! Anyone else doing the same? I know the car is designed to run that tire in the rear, but mainly for the roadcourse, which I may never see. I love a meaty tire in the rear!!

Thinking also about putting the bigger tire and side skirts.

Why dont you store the tires because the front will eventually wear out. You wont get as much out of them to replace them down the road.

That is my intention, keep them and put them on front when replacing is needed up there. Also have the dealer installing the side rockers the day it arrives.

Larger rears will affect understeer unless you change to ZL1 or aftermarket sway bars.

Won't need to worry about understeer too much since I wont be racing it at an autocross.
I do all of my own wrenching, so I'll be installing the skirts and diffuser myself.
I can buy the tires pretty much at cost and it's gonna be a couple years before I'll need front tires, so whatever I get for them will help pay for the 305's.
Sooo anxious!!!

The rear tire stretched across the 11" wheel looks bad to me, I am putting on Forgeline wheels with NT-05's 275/40-20's on the front and 315/35-20 on the rear....will post pictures when I get them on...

Why are you going wider in the rear for winter, you will get less traction? Narrower is better for winter and snow. Pressure equals force over area. If you go narrower your contqct patch area is smaller, ur force is same because that is weight of vehicle. Hence, ur pressure on the contact patch is higher now which is good in slippery situations. Ur drag is also lower in deep snow with the narrower tire, providing better stability.

Threads like this make me envision a GM engineer that worked on the 1LE package reading this and screaming at his monitor.

You guys are not concerned with upsetting the balance of the car? It would be interesting to have a skidpad done on the car with the square setup Vs 305s on the back.
