GM to raise 2008 prices.

General Motors has announced that it will increase its 2008 pricing by an average of 1.5% per model. The price increase is due to rising steel and commodity prices. The Cadillac XLR will see the biggest price hike, with its sticker price growing by $1,500.

"This targeted price increase is designed to partially recover ever-increasing commodity costs," Mark LaNeve, GM North America vice president of vehicle sales, told The Detroit News.

While most vehicles will see a price increase of between $100 and $500, some models won't see any increase at all. The base model Saturn Aura and Chevrolet Malibu will be spared a price increase, because GM says they are "in hotly contested segments."

Ford said that it has no price increases planned, but Chrysler failed to comment on the subject.

Wouldn't the upcoming Camaro fit in that highly contested group?

I thought the price of cars went up $100-$500 just about every year anyway...

I do believe that this is an extra add-on. Albeit not much. Because I bought an '08 about a month ago, so they're already priced. This is a 'fix', if I understand it correctly.

Not a big deal, as long as they don't add 500 dollars onto the car yearly lol.

Yeah, I found this story kinda pointless. It isn't unusual at all to have cars go up $100-$500 a year even without any changes. The Camry got no changes for 08, but it went up slightly in price. No worries. Inflation happens.

If Ford claims no price increases for next year, they are lying or something... I thought every year new vehicles went up in price. That's just a part of inflation!

the price increase is less than the inflation rate, so I would imagine that its on top of regular increases, making the overall increase something like 3.5%. Thats a total of about 1000 on a 30 000 car, nothing to be too concerned about but it is somewhat noticible
