" Excessive Noise " Don't know if it's still the same, but long time ago they could only issue one ticket within a 24 hour period ......

Get a ticket in the morning, and run open pipes all night .....

You sure can, and you can also get a ticket in some areas for playing your stereo too loud.. It's called disturbing the peace...

It may vary slightly pending on the level of police, from Local to State, to Federal and in Canada Local, Provincial, and Federal.

-- This means don't bitch about why you got pulled over to anyone and how its ''stupid''.

If you get stopped, for any of the following reasons:
1.) Window Tint
2.) Loud Exhaust
3.) Routine Stop

This is because IN MOST CASES the officer has used one of the three above to justify why he stopped you and is hoping to find something else.

Window Tint
- If you go dark, you are at risk.
Do you have any idea how jarring, concerning, ''scary'' it is for an officer to approach a vehicle at night when he cant see in,

Can you imagine approaching a vehicle and seeing a passenger in the back seat with something shiny.. is it a pop can or is it a gun?

How would you like to approach a car you cant see in and deal with the worst of the worst on a constant basis?

Loud Exhaust
- you're in your teens, you want it to sound like a v8, you want more performance

Whatever the reason you went with a big exhaust police do not care.
Stop justifying it, you pay to play. P.S., Chances are you were revving your engine or it sounded like shit and annoyed the officer thus you got stopped.

Routine Check
- again, you need these things, they are checking.

now, I'm going to give you a few tips that will most often result in no ticket, just a firm warning

1.) AS SOON AS YOU REALIZE YOU ARE BEING PULLED OVER DON'T IMMEDIATELY STOP IN YOUR CURRENT SPOT, This often results in the officer being placed in harms way from oncoming vehicles. Again, think if this was you?

2.) Immediately turn on your FOUR WAYS
This conveys to the officer that you acknowledge that hes there.

3.) Begin looking for a SAFE SPOT for both you AND HIM to pull off. If this means driving for an extra 60 seconds so be it!

4.) You've now stopped, before the officer even gets out of his car you have more than enough time to do the following
- Turn on your dome / interior lights so the interior is now visible (tint people).
- Get out all required documentation that you KNOW he will probably want to see
- Turn your VEHICLE off, and put your keys, along with your documentation on the dash in PLAIN VIEW
- As the officer approaches leave your hands on the steering wheel.

5.) Doing the above will have the following happen
- HE will be shocked, everythign is in plain view, vehicles off, he can see in, your documentation is all there, your hands are in plain view, your vehicles off, I mean christ if he didnt know any better hed think you were actually mindful and respectful of HIM doing his job that you PAY him to do.

- If he asks why it took you an extra 60 seconds to come to a stop you can say because i wanted to find somewhere safe for both you and I to stop.

If you do the above chances are you won't get a ticket.. after all this guy is doing his job that everyone wants them to do.
You are wrong about "routine traffic stop". The United States Supreme court ruled in 1965 that these stops were unconstitutional. Check it out if you think that I am wrong. The policeman must have probable cause to stop you. The rest of the post is fairly accurate as if a cop wants to pull you over he will either find a reason or invent one. My cop riding buddy gave me this advice.
1. You can not win a road side argument with an armed policman.
2. Treat the officer with courtesy and respect.
3. Do not make the cop think that you think that he is stupid with a line like "Why are you pulling me over officer, I wasn't doing anything wrong" when you clearly know that you were..
4. If your speeding and the cop asks "Do you know why I stopped you?" answer yes.
5. If he says that you were speeding, do not call him a liar by denying it. If you think that you were not, save it for court. (See item #1)
6. Most times if you show respect and courtesy to the officer you will get a break.
The only time that I have not gotten off with a warning since Dave told me this was when the same cop caught me speeding in the same place a second time. Clearly my stupidity.

Revere Beach, Revere Massachusetts on Boston's north shore has the loud stereo law and they enforce it.

Can I stop ANY vehicle absent PC or RS? No...Why?

The 4th Amendment to the Constitution which covers all citizens absent statutorial law which prevails.

Being a Detroit LEO does not mean we do things differently at all. Law is law. But I definately do use all applicable minor PC infractions such as license plate lamp out or fail to signal to stop a car if I believe crime is afoot. Do I stop and cite for stupid crap like that? Hell no.

I have to follow the law and the Constitution or else I get fired.
In Massacusetts the police can run any plate because it is prominently displayed out side of the vehicle. After they run the plate and find out who the owner is, they can run a check on the owner for warrants. If a warrant is found, the cop now has probable cause for stopping the car. When we had liberal Mike Dukakis as our governor, he started the drunk driving roadblocks. They were ruled unconstitutional by the supreme court so he got his lawyers to figure out a work around. They came up with this; you can be stopped to get a piece of anti drunk driving literature from the cops provded they are stopping ALL cars. Anything that the officer can plainly see through the window is fair game such as empty beer cans or if you smell like the Anheiser-Bush brewery. But there are no such things as "routine stops". If you were routinely stopped in every town on your way to and from work, you would never get there.

I got pulled over one time while test driving a Camaro convertible.. well I was driving along and saw the police pull out from a side road and fall in behind me, he turned on his lights, I knew I wasn't speeding, and had no clue why he pulled us over. I waved at him to acknowlege him and found the next pulloff to pull over.. He walked up to the car and first thing he asked was where was my tag.. Well the salesman didn't have a magnetic tag for the back so he just took one and stuck it in the windshield.. I handed the officer the tag and told him we had just pulled out of the dealership test driving the car. He said that was the second time today they had done that, so he followed me back to the dealership, The salesman came out along with the manager.. boy did the officer give him a lecture and pulled out his ticket book.. We kind of drifted off and got in our car and left...

You are FLAT OUT WRONG about this one. I got lectured by an officer here in Texas for not pulling over IMMEDIATELY. I was trying to keep him out of harm's way by finding a safe spot during rush hour on a three lane road with no median or shoulder. He stated he would have preferred if I had stopped right then and there and shut down a lane of traffic.

Asylum, your post is right on the money, the "take away" for us is this......ok, weare just out enjoying out ride, and for "what ever reason" we get pulled over.....maybe its been a bad day, or just because, the officer has a job to do, and he/she deals or could deal with people on a dealy basis that could take his life.......give them the respect they deserve. Remember about Karma - I personally have seen in come into play a few times in my life, in fact, if it weren't for the kindness of a passer by, I might not be sitting here now typing this post, or have a camaro. SO, there my be a day where you are wanting them to come to your rescue, give them the respect they deserve.

I disagree, I have always been told by the couple officers I've done rides with, you should just keep both hands on the wheel and wait for direction. If you move around as much as you've indicated, the officer may thing you're either hiding or looking for something.

Well You got lectured by one officer, well he may not have cared a thing about his or your safety, but most officers say to acknowlege that you see them and pull over at the first safe place to do so, to just stop in the middle of a traffic lane would be idiotic...
