Add Engine Oil Message

Ok first off....I know...its not normal.

I have about 1200 miles on my car, and I got that message today...and yes of course I am freaked out.

It's not my daily driver, so it is in the garage until I can get it to the dealer

I just wanted to know if anyone else out there has had the same thing happen, and if so....whats the deal?

Maybe they screwed up at the factory and your dealer didn't catch it before releasing the car to you. You should take it to the dealer to have them check it over and to get it on record.

About how much on the dip stick is "a bit low"?

I'm guessing in order for the message to come up in the DIC you have to be atleast 1.5qts low

Simple fix, top it off and take it to the dealer

As far as oil level fill from the factory, the driver that brought us our first 2011 HD had said that dealers have been noticing quality control issues as far as fluid levels from the factory. Anything from underfilled t-cases to engines.

Oh...and please...for the love of all automotive...be VERY careful going by the OLM! Stick to normal intervals of 3mo/3000 miles for oil changes. Well, 5 or 6 might not hurt as these V8's run Mobil 1 from the factory.

I don't think I would top it off, let the dealer see it first. It could be a engine problem and burning oil, but probably an oil leak.

Have them get it on the lift. There is an issue with oil cooler seals leaking, the entire underside of my engine and tranny was covered in oil but I never saw a drop on the ground.

Mine was a small leak, yours could be bigger if that is it.

Could have been underfilled at the factory - if so, your dealer was negligent when they prepped the car for not catching it.

You need to carefully top it off (be careful not to overfill) and monitor at least weekly for the next 5000 miles to see if its using any and if so how much. If it goes down more than a quart in 5000 miles, take it in for service.

The next new car you buy (or any car for that matter), you need to check all fluids as soon as you bring it home. Don't assume that the dealer checked everything...
