sputtering for 5-10 sec after a cold start (LS3)

Today was one of the coldest mornings we've had for a while in Southern California. (40f) I get in the car to go to work this morning, start the car and it kind of sputtery and idling at a lower rpm than it usually does. After about 5-10 seconds it stops idling iradically/sputtering. Car warms up and runs like a champ.

Now normally when I start the car in the morning, it starts strong and idles at higher rpm till it warms up. (I LOVE THE WAY IT SOUNDS WHEN I START IT )

I thought I remember reading on an LS forum somewhere, that the computer will advance the timing a little due to the O2 sensors not being able to obtain an accurate reading until a little warm. Is this true? Anybody have this issue during a cold start?

My L99 runs rough for about 3 to 5 seconds when I first crank it up & after sitting all night. I have a Roto-fab CAI now, but it has done it since it was new with a stock intake. Only does it if it has been parked overnight.

yep, it has been cold in SoCal lately. I have a LS3 as well and it actually seems to fire up quicker in the cold mornings but like you said, for about 10 seconds, it does idle rougher and takes longer to settle to 500rpm than normal morning temps. It doesn't bother me except, you tend to hear the panels rattle when it is idling rough before it settles.

15f here in Seattle and yes, for about 5 seconds this morning mine sounded a little rough, but like you said it soon picks up and gets back to normal. Not worried for the time being.

Keeps emmissions down to run lean at start up. Don't worry about it - just thank the EPA.

Thank God! That's a piece of mind. It did it this morning again, but not as bad. I wonder how high the ambient temperature has to be in order for this not to happen. Like I said, it's been low 40f mornings lately. (It's not 15f, but still a little chilly for us Southern Californians. I had to wear a sweater this morning:()

Quit whining, we'd give anything to have 40 degree mornings right now in CO. LOL
We had 4 mornings in a row last week that were below 0. One morning was
17 below zero. By the way, the camaro started right up that morning.
