Anyone plan on buying the extended warranty?
I know for 2009 the bumper-to-bumper warranty is 36/36. Assuming it will remain the same for 2010 models is there interest in buying the extended warranty? Pros/cons?
Thanks Paul |

i blow hot and cold on these things. first, it HAS to be GMAC, not an outside co. a GMAC plan should run about a grand. it's a totally new vehicle. hopefully, it won't have it's gremlins.this car i plan on keeping 5 years or more. i might opt for it.

http://www.chevrolet.com/warranty/ says bumper-to-bumper is 36/36 but 5/100 on powertrain/drivetrain. |

The comprehensive (bumper to bumper) is 3/36 the powertrain is 5/100. I think as a consumer that it is always a good idea to purchase an extended warranty if you plan on keeping your car past the 3/36. if I were to lease the car and was not keeping it longer I would pass. My dealership offers discounted warranties on ALL GM products through this website http://chevyfactorywarranty.com/ feel free to check it our if you like. Tell them there boss Bobby sent you and you can get an even sweeter deal!

Hello!
|
I'll end up modding the car so an extended warranty would be a waste for me.

When I bought my wife's 2008 HHR SS this past March I went over this same decision with the dealer.
Most extended warranties only cover major power train, which the 5/100,000 mile warranty you get from Chevrolet already covers. I didn't get it on the HHR, I won't get an extended on the Camaro. |

The info. on the 3/36 and the 5/100 powertrain is correct. As to whether it's worth it to buy an extended warranty, I know everyone will have their own opinion, but if it's any help, since 2003 we have bought 3 GMC trucks and 2 Yukons. Four of which we still own. Even up to the 100,000 mile mark, we haven't had any problems that might require the extra warranty. We have never bought the extended warranty and don't plan to in the future.
GM already makes a QUALITY products and the Camaro should be too. I feel like it's just a total waste of money. And given the fact that once you start to sign the papers on any new GM car/truck, the finance manager really starts "pouring it on" about the ext.warranty, it sends out a big red flag that this is a big money maker for the dealer. Of course there's always a chance that "something might happen" with a first run production car but I am willing to spend that same money instead on more goodies for my new CAMARO. |

Remember ....you CAN buy the extended warranty at 35,999. So wait and see if you keep the car and if it has given you cause to think you need it. Buy it THEN and they don't have your money for 35 months. It does not kick in till the other warranty has lapsed so IMO not a good idea to buy it.

I got an extended warranty thrown on my Cobalt for free. If it is something you want, try to negotiate with it. Remember, pretty much everything but government fees and taxes are negotiable.

I'll get it.
I have the extended warranty for my current 02 SS which is actually transferable to the person that buys it from me when I sell it next year. Only costs $100 to transfer it. But, I've used it to replace the transmission and two window motors. Cost? $1,200 for the warranty. Cost for the tranny and window motors? about $4,000. Was it worth it? Do the math! Yeah....I'll buy one. |

Excellent post Tag.
I have a service department and 16% of all the work done in there is warranty pay. We are booked everyday of the week serviceing customers so in short YES Chevrolet makes a great product but they are machines and machines can and will break. Its kind of like life insurance hopefully you wont need it but if you do and dont have it your family is screwed. Many people cant cme up with 3-6 thousand dollars to repair some of these sophisticated vehciles and its much easier to make a small monthly payment to have peace of mind. Theres always a ying and yang some will never need it and others will use it more than once its all about peace of mind for me. Quote:
