Toll booths?
How many of you have to pay a toll booth in your state? Don't we pay taxes for our roads, why is there a fee to drive on an interstate? I went through Oklahoma and had to pay 1.90 to drive on the interstate. I live in Nebraska and we don't have them. Kinda frustrating, just venting.

We have toll booths in Texas, yes. They are on toll roads, not on Interstates.
OK calls their toll roads "turnpikes", at least the ones I've been on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turnpikes_of_Oklahoma http://okc.about.com/library/blokchighways.htm |

Note: There are definitely some toll bridges on Interstates. One I'm familiar with in Florida....
http://www.tollfinder.com/states/FL/...skyway-bridge/ And this one, a tunnel, is relatively close to us and allows you to go under an airport.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Addison...rt_Toll_Tunnel |

Drove all the way down to Oklahoma (just across the border) from North Dakota a few times, not a single toll on I29. The only time I really pay for a toll is across this one bridge in the North Fargo/Moorhead area. I pay it because it's the quickest and shortest route to see my girlfriend who lives in Moorhead. By the time I get to Fargo (a 4 hour drive), I just want to get to her house rather than drive around the toll bridge. It's only $0.75, a far cry from the $70 in gas it takes me to get there and back.

Oklahoma is notorious for tolls. Some roads seem to have them every ten miles with no exits. And their tax base is minimal. Last I knew tags were $44.00 for whatever it is you drive. Beats the hell out of the $700.00 I pay just a few miles north!

I live at the Jersey Shore the land of high taxes and plenty of tolls. The Garden State Parkway has a toll booth about every 30 miles or so. The Atlantic City Expressway has a few toll booths and a Godbillon dollar employee bridge for crossing over the roadway. New Jersey Turnpike is crazy and try to exit New Jersey into the neighboring states.... Well you better dig deep at state line leaving the state but the good news is you can enter here for FREE just can't leave without making a donation.
Oh and our roads are suck

In the 60's & early 70's the Federal "Turnpike" system was financed on bonds and other financial devices that were re-paid through tolls. When the roads were paid for the states kept up the tolls to supposedly pay for upkeep and improvements. Supposedly a "pay to play" scenario.
In Orlando, the Bee Line Expressway cuts right through the center of town with toll booths every 2 or 3 miles. Quickest way to the Airport from Canaveral/Titusville or the Florida Turnpike. Or, at least it used to be. Please correct me if I'm mistaken on the facts.
