Vararam Ram Air V

What's everyone's thoughts on the Vararam Ram Air V - see link: http://www.vararam.com/g8.html

They claim +35HP - link gives some spec details & the price is $369 for the G8 GXP version which has an LS3 engine - their sales email response indicated they've used this for their Camaro offerings though not yet posted on their website.

I know this is the LS3 / L99 Engine and Powertrain Discussions - I'd just make sure Vararam has fully tested the Camaro LS3 / L99 before assuming its "plug & play" on yours. Sales email for questions = sales@vararam.com. Here's a link to a Motor Trend article on the G8 GXP and its verison of the LS3 http://www.motortrend.com/features/a...ook/index.html.

They say they've produced a V6 LLT version - I am waiting on specs and install instructions to be sent to me before I order. Also asked questions on how the unit deals with water splashes getting into the intake which is an issue with open filter CAIs. This unit appears to have some protection but asked anyway.

If any member has experiece with Vararam from other models please chime in...

I have never used one before. I wish the would show the bottom .. I'm just trying to figure out where it is pulling air from? Is it in front of the radiator?

Vette owners swear by the Vararam. It has been tested and proven that it does provied some of the best if not the best power gains when moving on the vette. However with that said it is also claimed to be one of the worst quality pieces. It is not a terrific piece of fit and finish beauty. So if it performs on the camaro the same way as it does on the vette I would say it is going to be one of the best, but if you are looking for chrome and showy ehhh I would go with another product.

I called them no one answers. I would like to purchase this setup. It draws air from infront of the radiator which is cooler than the engine compartment air. I will also pull a dyno run to see what it does. Standby

On phone now. Ok guys here is what they say. They are taking the G8 unit and changing it to draw more air. The damn neck on the radiator is giving them a headache. They will have in stock within 2 weeks. This unit will be badass.

I ran the Vararam on my C5 and I agree with the above. The Vararam created much more power than other CAI's I tried but the fitment was sloppy and the air filtration was crap. I had to stay on top of the cleaning of the filter. Maybe Vararam has improved in both of these areas??? I would definitely consider a purchase from them but hope they have a better filter this time. The fitment needs to be good but I do not care that much about under the hood looks, mainly function.

Yup this is true, the one shown is plug and play for the V6 but us v8 guys have to wait a couple weeks. They use Green Filter USA filters and are waiting on them for some units to test fully. Some like these some do not,
if you get this kit this is the only choice as filter is made for the intake.

I've been waiting to learn more about what this company does for Camaro too. I know I've seen tests where they weren't too impressive on the dyno, but there were gains of .3+ in the 1320'. I don't recall reading about fitment problems, however, this article was only a couple years old - hopefully the problems you found were taken care of by now. It was on a C6/LS2 if I remember correctly.

Dont expect to see impressive dyno numbers with this type system...it requires movement of air to create power...this is the type of system that "performs" on the street or strip not the dyno. Vette guys, ask them, vararam works, plain and simple.

Not trying to be smart or anything, just wondering if you could explain. What is the difference in it moving or not VS the one under the hood?
