One sits behind the axles and one sits behind the cats?

=o Logically that's what it should be....

I dunno though.

For the LS3, you do not gain much with a cat-back...since the standard system is basically wide-open. The only reason you would swap out the LS3's cat-back or axle-back system is for preference of noice level and type.

For the L99's, swapping out the cat-back removes quite a few extra resonators, and additional equipment. This would greatly improve the flow through the system with a cat-back. However, since the resonators are removed, be ready for some drone.

If you just want it to sound good, for a cheap price, go for the axle-back mod.

Also put, A "Cat" Back means replacing the factory exhaust system from the "Cat"alytic converters back to the exhaust tips.

An "Axle" back system, means replacing the factory exhaust components from the "axle" back. Usually the axle back systems replace mainly jut the mufflers and tips.

mine is automatic so it's L99. I understand that both will increase the power right ?

The only thing you're going to gain from an axle-back is increased sound, and a slight reduction in weight. I believe 10lbs = 1 HP? So, with 18 points in each Muffler, you're looking at almost 4HP increase...

I'm no expert, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

-----------

The area that is constricting on the L99 is the resonator boxes in the middle of the exhaust underneath. This portion is where you could (potentially) see some increased HP if it was swapped out for a straight-through pipe (i.e., Cat-Back).

Yeah, what they said. Axle back is mostly for sound and way less expensive. But doesn't a cat back still only boost by 8-10 HP at most even on the L99?
