2011 Camaro SS vs. Subaru WRX STi

Who'd win in a general shootout? Camaro obviously has more power and HP wise theres really no comparison but the 9.1 hp/lb of the SS compared to the 11.1 of the WRX is what worries me. What wins on the strip?

From a dig to ~60-70, the sti will pull a bit with equal drivers because of the AWD, but after that it would be all SS. The sti loses a lot more power through the drivetrain, so it only makes 235-240awhp stock and it's geared extremely short so we have to be in fifth at the end of the 1320. Lots of shifting. It's a ~103-104 trap, mid-low 13 ET car with a good driver. Should be a good race with an l99 all the way through the quarter with a decent edge to the l99 up top. The ls3 should walk it with equal drivers. On a road course, I suspect a camaro would be in trouble though. All these things go out the window when modded as both the SS and STi respond well to mods.

Personally, I would expect to lose if I lined up against an ls3 or l99 right now unless it as a short dig race. Until I tune the car and get a downpipe, I just don't make enough power.

As stated above, it's probably going to come down to a launch. The STi is a really nice car and will deliver (especially off the line), but even a healthy LT1 with intake/exhaust will keep up with one from a roll. Start adding mods to the STi, though, and it's a different story.

Put drag radials on the SS and you will have no problems

I'd give the SS the advantage, unless the track happens to be covered in mud, dirt, gravel, or snow.

In an autocross course, the STi will edge over the SS. Weight is a bitch on an SS.
On a road course, the SS will probably edge the STi especially on the straights thanks to the LS3 power.
On a drag strip, the SS hands down will dominate the match. Again, thanks to the 6.2 liters of displacement and also because of the parasitic loss of an awd system in the Subaru.

From a dig, It's a drivers race. Both can do 4.6 - 4.8 to 60mph. After that, the one with the most displacement will def. walk away.

Now, if you mod either one then is a different story and because the variables are so many, it would be too hard to estimate.

I raced one and destroyed it. I took about two cars at the launch and just pulled more as we went down the track. I dont know what he had but it wasn't stock. L99.

I owned an STi and a WRX. Both cars are all about a high rpm launch. They have awd and can be launched hard pulling easy 1.8 sec 60' times (stock). But not everyone can do it, or is willing to do it.

But most WRX's/STi's trap around 100-102 mph or so. In similar conditons the SS will trap 105-108 mph. The SS has a ton more top end speed. So if the race is anywhere close around 60mph or so, the SS will easily win the race. But a well driven STi is very capable of running low 13s with a fast 60' time.

Top end - STi's and WRX's aren't very fast. A V6 Camaro could easily keep up with a WRX or STi at speeds over 80mph or so.

raced one at the strip a couple months ago, beat it by 3 or 4 car lengths.

BTW, all i have is headers, intake, exhaust, tune... no DR's, FI, or Nitrous

as far as i could tell he had a fart can style exhaust, never bothered to ask what else.

Like someone said before, if you can't drive for squat, it makes the car look incredibly bad. In this case, the diplacement of an SS is enough to put down the foot on many imports, excluding some of course but, never under estimate the competition.

If you put two cars on an sti at launch, he was the worst driver ever, period. I've pulled low 60's in the low 1.7x's on the stock tires.
