Don't wait to mod; these cars were made for modding, just like Harleys.

Hi OP, I currently have a 2011 1LT myself. I didn't start playing with mods until it already had about 45K on it. Once the bug bit I couldn't stop. As a matter of fact, my IPF tune comes in the mail tomorrow! I have done more on my car in the last 9 months than I ever thought I would do in the previous 2 years!

Sure I won't ever get what its worth from a dealer if I ever want to trade up, but with all the fun I have had so far, I am keeping her as long as I can. She will get paid off in May when I get my bonus, and that means.... $450 more a month for mods! woot woot!

My car was in the shop for warranty repairs 3 times in the first 6 months of ownership including a 4-day stay in Jan '12. It has been running fine since, but the rear diff is making noise again and now it has an engine oil leak. All this in the first 15,300 miles. I just paid off the loan and was planning to install a set of tri-y's and get a tune, but the warranty work will have to come first.

Just remember, life is short and is for living.

Most likely you will not need that warranty. Even so a dealer is going to have to prove the tune is the source of a problem. With a tune you do lose a little residual value if the dealer knows about the tune, even if you set it back to stock. If it's a private sale you owe it to the new owner to tell him or her about the tune. But the 1LE is a keeper.

I am getting a tune and more in two weeks. Damn the torpedos! Don't forget also you can run headers without a tune. You only lose 8-10 hp you would get from the tune and the car runs great. You will get some CELs, but you can get a $50 code reader and just turn them off. Or you can get Kooks green cats and get no CELs. With the Kooks you can have your cake and eat it too. My car right now can run 12.3s without a tune and with a little more practice I can probably get close to 11s.

If you get a tune, you just know you will want a cam. So get the cam and the tune and have some fun running down C7s.

electronic steering seems to help with drivetrain loss (at least that is what is being said). A few stock 1LE's have posted 390whp (as opposed to 360-370 on an SS).

Better stock suspension, shifter, wheels, gears, seats and a front splitter...

Just having all that upgraded on my car cost a ton...

oh and you get the ZL1 fuel pump too (well so do the 2014 SS Camaro's I think)..

Mine was shot before it had 1,000 miles, supercharged. Work done at the dealership. Never looked back, never happier!

That's the problem with modding. You "lose" money. I've owned 5 Harleys and heavily modded the first 4, and with the current one I said no more. I have made some mods to it for performance, but only stage 1 stuff with a few cosmetic mods. There are times when I ride with my buddies that I see things I would like to do. But after the ride is over and the bike is put away, the mod feelings go away too. Like you I've dropped way to much money in the Camaro, even upgrading previously upgraded parts. Modding is like crack, you want to stop but you can't. I bet you will be modding sooner than later. Just make wise decisions.

The way I look at it, if you get comfortably past the break in period and its all working fine, then you have a good car. If you get a lemon you'll start finding out real soon. So after 4500 miles I did the cam and headers thing. Only problem since then was oil pump failure and that was covered under warranty by my dealer, (minus the towing charge).

Then my clutch gave out, but that was my fault for drag racing it (poorly).

So basically, it all comes down to how bad do you want it and what that lovely lady of the street said, "How much money you got?"

Agreed, about the base for modding, it was the drive train loss specific to 1LEs I was wondering about. Yes EPS will save a few HP. The different gearing also may have a slight impact on the dyno numbers. But sadly the 1LEs are no faster than any other stock LS3 on a drag strip. And perhaps a bit slower due to the tracking focus of the suspension and tires.
