help me choose (Boxster vs. V8 Camaro)

in a few months i have the oppurtunity to drive either:

brand new Camaro SS

or

2006 Porsche Boxster 12K miles

obviously the Camaro wins in almost every single category performance wise, but the porsche is hella fun to drive and the handling is pretty amazing. im just wondering if you had a choice between these two which one would you rather have?
btw sorry mods if its in the wrong section.

I don't even consider the Boxster a Porsche - I put it in the same category as a Miata. Camaro all the way.

Are you kidding?

200% Camaro

Boxster is a chick car too, go with the Detroit V8. It'll put some hair on your chest

ummmm last I checked this was a Camaro forum. Take a guess which car will win out here. I'll go with the Camaro SS.

I can get a used Boxter for a lot cheaper than a new SS Camaro. So the Camaro wins hands down. Maybe if it was 911 or a GT variant, a 356 I'd try if it was in there.

I used to have a 914 with the six cylinder engine and it was nice.

if it was a Carrera, my answer may be different...note MAY. But against a Boxster - Camaro SS hands down.

Here, I'll break down pros and cons for you:

Boxster
Pros
Mid-engine format makes the car satisfying in the turns
Buying used means you don't eat depreciation costs
Pleasing, but not eye-catching styling

Cons
Slow
Not a 911
Fairly impractical as an everyday driver
Styling update is coming up sometime soon. This car may look old soon.
Bad value for the money
Not a 911
Expensive as hell to modify and repair

Camaro
Pros
Great performance for the dollar
Great looks
LS3 shows spectacular improvement for basic bolt-ons
Will look fresh for a while

Cons
GM's shaky financial situation
Waiting for the pre-order to show up
Buying new means you eat depreciation costs
Potential first-year gremlins
Is a Z28 going to show up next year?

There you have it. Camaro SS wins in a laugher. This would be a much closer call if you were shopping a 996 Turbo

Porsches are nice, the boxster is a nice car, competition for the Z4 roadster though. The camaro will demand more attention from others, and the rich snobs won't look at your boxster as sub-porsche. Some porsche owners are worse then bmw owners...

overall, you will probably get the same excitement driving either, but the camaro will be a little easier to slide out and you'll have the v8 rumble, if that's what you're looking for.

Overall it's a personal preference. Porsche parts are probably more expensive then chevy parts, and with the biased false stereotype with the "not-quite-porsche" boxster that people have, my choice is the Camaro, but I wouldn't turn the porsche down at all.

I've driven in a Boxster on several occassions. They're nice cars, very well engineered.

That being said, I will admit to being biased towards the Camaro.

One consideration is maintenance costs; Porsche > $$$.

You may consider what type of vehicle you like driving better. The flat 6 of the Porsche is much different that the V8 you'll find in the SS. They both are well handling cars. It all depends on what YOU like driving.
