ZL 1 Black 10 spoke wheel nut torque spec's???
Got a set of wheel locks for my black beastie's black 10 spoke rims. The owner's manual lists two different ft. lb. spec's based on the color of the studs. No color on mine and I don't want to mess the rotors up with incorrect torque. Any idea what is correct?

I have mine at 120.. Been like that for 8000 miles and no problems.. You are going to get all kind of shit answers on here.. My buddy works at a Chevy dealer as a world class tech and told me to put them at 120.. My wheel shop said the same..

20 lbs/ft ? Wow. The regular camaro's need 140 lbs/ft. Not doubting you, just surprised.

On my 2012 ZL1 the OEM wheel nuts are the blue tint type and my wheels are polished.
Wheel nuts with blue tint cone seats 150Nm 110 lb ft Wheel nuts with silver tint cone seats 190Nm 140 lb ft Hope that helps

The owners manual says 140 but like I said my dealer which is my good friend told me to put them at 120lbs. He is a world class tech and Sun Chevy's performance manager.. I know there are a few threads on here about this. Like I said this is going to be interesting..

I replaced my lug nuts with black ones.
The cones on the factory lug nuts were blue in tint so I torqued the new ones to 110 ft lbs and not had a problem. |

Read the manual. Follow the manual. OEMs have sophisticated equipment and extensive testing to guide torque specs, nobody in the shop at the dealer has the same equipment. As for the OP, if u bought the mcgard ones at the dealer, follow the owner manual. If u have blue cone nuts for the regular nuts, and the lock nuts are not blue cone, it is conceivable to use both torque specs on 1 wheel. |

Thans for the information! My owners manual only says 110 but I'm taking them off today to straighten out the bowties with the ZL1 on the polished wheels. I knew I read this post before but it took me an hour to fnd it today. My owners manual is just a general for all camaros. I would assume that dfferent models/wheels may take different torques.

'10s, '11s were all 140.
'12s depends on the nut cone color. Silver 140, blue 110. If you add a lock nut, set it at the same as the others. |

To be truthful. It's not gonna make a difference. Just make sure all 5 are the same per wheel. 110-140. Not a huge difference.

Is it obvious just from removing a lug nut whether the stud is silver or blue? You don't have to remove the entire wheel to tell I hope...
