I test drove a ZL1 last week because I was debating on "upgrading". It honestly was slower then my modded SS and handled about the same. Currently my car has headers, and a TSP 231/236 cam, BMR springs and sways and ZL1 Ten spoke wheels.. I would like to think it's basicially a 2011 version of the 1LE minus the 3.91 gears... But no joke I can walk all over a stock ZL1... That's the performance aspect of it from my opinion... Now the interior was way nicer in the ZL1 only because I loved the new recaro seats.... I'm sure I will just buy seats for my SS at some point because the seats alone and the My Link screen aren't enough to make me want to spend the extra 20K.. ... can you make a ZL1 way faster pretty easily.. YES...
If money isn't an opinion then I would get one for sure... It looks badass and has crazy potential.. But just like i did with my SS.. I will wait for the prices to drop big time... I got my 2SS with 6000 miles for 29... |

A dealer by me still has a '13 BRM 'vert . They want $62k for it. I could afford it,but that's a big one every month. I'd rather pay off my '11.

The ZL1 is a masterpiece if engineering. It's not all in the bolt-ons.

If you can afford it, yes. I'd love to have a ZL1 and maybe one day I will but right now, my modded SS will do

Do the math. Literally. If you can swing it, once you figure out how much extra $$ you're talking about, then make an informed decision. If you come up short, that's ok. Wait until you're in a better financial position. At least you'll know where you need to be. It' not a race. Plan it out how to get there, then work the plan. It can happen.
But yeah, the ZL1 is a whole nuther car darned near. It's more fun to drive than the 2010 and I still love it too!

at the current exchange rate, $49995 is about $47,100 U.S. Still pretty good for a brand new ZL1!

Thanks everyone for their input. So i went this morning to the dealer and checked out the ZL1, it is such a beautiful machine! I wasnt able to test drive due to the snow. However after I reviewed my financial position I decided to let this opportunity pass. They told me they would offer approx $28K for my SS and on top of that I would have to carry over the balance to the ZL1, my monthly payments would be just a bit higher but I would have to start from scratch, and my insurance would be more expensive, it would make me a bit tight every month, so I think I will stick to my SS and once im done paying her, maybe Ill invest in moding her, or maybe a ZL1 or Z28, whatever fits the budget at the time! thanks folks !

I went from a 2010 SS with a blower/headers/exhaust and coilovers to a ZL1. The upgrades were still very noticeable. |

Yes?
I don't know, never drove an SS. But the ZL1 is awesome. But going further into debt is a decision you shouldn't take lightly. Just put serious thought into it before you pull the trigger.
