2010 2SS M6 popping out of first gear
I have had an issue with my new car and thought I might ask if anyone else has seen it. First, I have driven manual tranny for years so I don't think it's me. If I am stopped at a light, put the car in first, ease off the clutch and BAMMO! A loud noise and the car comes out of gear. My hand isn't even on the shifter. This is just every day driving, I'm not getting on it at all. This seems to happen about every two weeks or so. I think I am going to take it in to have the dealer look at it but I doubt that they are going to do anything since it probably won't be re-producible.
Anyone else seen/heard of this? I looked through the other posts and didn't see much, just people complaining about the clutch. Thanks everyone! |

gear issue
This isn't a grind, although I have had that happen too. This is a violent sound/movement that ends up with the car in neutral.

I have had that issue as well and have drove a manual for many years. Not sure what the issue is.

If the manual transmission is similar to the Z06, there is what feels like a second detent when it goes all the way into first. The rubber damper in the shifter can make it even harder to feel when it is in gear.
I had mine pop out once, and I made sure that never happened again. The short throw shifters can make the shifting effort higher, but they do provide a more crisp feel of when the transmission is in gear. Installed a Hurst shifter and never had a problem again. |

Never had that problem myself.
Either operator error or a defect. I'd take it in if you're sure you've put it fully in first gear, but you may want to make sure you've put it fully in first gear before doing that, as others have pointed out.

It's happened to me 3 times and it's not operator error...

Not happened here before. I was by no means a skilled manual driver when I got her, and have never experienced this.

My M6 shifts smooth as can be. Popping out of gear usually indicates a bad syncro in the transmission. The syncro is a little brass ring between the gear and the slider. Take it to the dealer and reproduce the problem for them. Don't just drop it off and leave it. Take an active roll in getting the repair done. Either the tranny will need to be rebuilt of replaced. This happened in one of my old Camaros. It will get worse if not corrected.
Also how many miles were on the car when you bought it? It may have been damaged while someone else was test driving it. Prior to your purchase. Or maybe the lot boy was raggin on it.

are you trying to put the car in gear as your slowing down with the clutch pressed or are you already stopped?
