SS exhaust on LS

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I've had my Victory red LS LFX manual for 3 months now. I read in Camaro Now magazine that the stock cat back from a manual SS is a good and cheap upgrade for our cars. I found one on Craigslist for $125 and installed it. I noticed a loss in low end torque and an increase in midrange horsepower, both on the butt dyno mind you. The problem I'm having is the sound isn't so good. If there is someone else on here running the SS cat back on their LFX please chime in with your comments and I could really use some suggestions on replacements for the mufflers. I really like the MRT and SLP sounds but I would like to avoid the ridiculous price tags. Thanks in advance for helpfull comments and advice.

Are the pipes a larger diameter? If so, that's why the torque is lower (my guess), as some of the scavenging efficiency would be lost. Also, if that's the case, I suppose you could repipe with 2.25" between the cats and the mufflers. Probably not worth it, though.

Someone here posted they put one on and it turned the car into a dog. read the threads on back pressure I believe it was posted the oversize exhaust killed exhaust velocity and was not a good mod for the LFX/V-6. Despite what porno chicks say bigger is not always better

Yes the pipes are considerably larger. If they weren't then what would be the point in the upgrade, right? The loss in torque is not an issue and I had no complaint or inquiry as to its absense because the upper rpm gains make up for it. What I want to know is which aftermarket axle back bolt on exhausts would sound the best, i.e. throaty deep tone vs. the obnoxious "bubble" sound my girlfriend refers to it by.

I agree that the ss exhaust alone is not a great upgrade but once you add the CAI then it becomes very much worth it. I've found that opening the intake makes all the difference in the SS exhaust sound on the LFX as well. However I'm still looking for opinions on an axle back system to compliment the SS exhaust on my LFX. Thank you for your input as I was concerned that I made a bad choice. On a side note my mpg's on the highway went up by 2 since the exhaust and intake upgrades.
