Recommend me a clutch!
Last night I floored it in second and went to put it in third and it wouldn't go in. I pulled over and the car doesn't move, it just shudders at the top of the clutch range. So I'm assuming my clutch went out, but correct me if I'm wrong. I put down 480 whp so I need something performance oriented but nothing too crazy. I don't have $1500 to drop either so I want something cost effective. I appreciate any input, thanks!
EDIT:Thanks for all of the recommendations, everyone! I'm probably gonna go with the Mantic once I get set up with a shop. But I also have a feeling that it may not even be my clutch... It broke while I was in gear, there was no burning smell, it never slipped before, and it never grabbed high. Do you guys think it broke anyway or maybe it's the output shaft or something? What would cost more to fix?

Mantic ER2 Single Clutch Disc Kit...
Clutch engagement is near stock pedal feel , but it holds 770+ ft/lbs. We have used them on a lot of N/A & forced inductions applications with great holding capacity. Gone are the days of that stiff pedal feel, and chatter from the clutch. The clutch kit comes in at a great price (Can't post here, but you can PM me or check our website), includes the steel billet flywheel, ER2 pressure plate/cover, and clutch disc. Complete kit ready to be installed! |

Please give the Street Slayer a look,it will cost a little more at first but it will save you a ton in the long run...1st No single will last as long as a twin so its futher inbetween labor bills...2nd it is rebuildable for less than some singles that you have to throw away . If you do a search you will find proven performance, great driving manners and a GREAT value .If we can help you out give us a call,,,,(We are working on a special deal for C5 members that we will anounce in a few days)

I've gone through alot of clutches in my Vette, some very expensive. As of now I use the Mcleod RXT in both vehicle's and has been the best clutch in my opinion. Been in my Vette for 2 years so far- longest of any clutch.

I've got the Street Slayer twin carbon and I love it. Excellent street manors and holds a ton of torque.

$2500, was that an installed price?
I am going with a Street Slayer Twin just because it is rebuildable and has a great reputation. I guess now I will be waiting on the Camaro5 deal from Hendrix Engineering. Hope it comes out soon, my clutch will not last much longer.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with running single clutch plate kits, especially since the OP is looking for something more cost effective. He does not want to spend $1500, so that is where I have my suggestion of something that is half of that with the holding power well exceeding his power range now.

I see what you are saying Matt but the problem with power is that you almost never stay at what you got. However if the OP is planning on staying at his current power level the ER2 could be a good option for him.
