Anyone know the format for a playlist on USB drive?
All my files are on the root of the drive (no folders) and the radio can see the songs without any issues. However if I generate a playlist (m3u) the tools that do that put the path of the USB drive when it's attached to my computer. I.e. g:\song.mp3 I've tried all sorts of formats for the playlist \song.mp3, "song.mp3", ..\song.mp3 but nothing seems to work. The radio can see the playlist, can see the song name, but when I hit the button to play a song on the playlist it doesnt do anything, which makes me think it sees the song name but then doesnt recognize the path to the file that the playlist is telling it.
So if someone has succesfully created a playlist that works on a usb drive with the radio could you just post one of the lines from their working playist (change file extension to .txt to read contents, then back to .m3u when you are done) so I can see what works? Thanks |

Just...
file name.mp3 With a line feed between each. Nothing more. No quotes, directory paths, etc. The files don't have to be in the same directory. It (somewhat surprisingly) finds them. But keep in mind, it will not continue the playlist after restarting the car. |

Thanks.
So far that didnt work. I'll keep experimenting but I've tried so many things I'm getting tired of going back and forth between the car and the computer. My test song which is playable if you search by songs has a filename that has spaces and an ' in the filename. I thought maybe one of those was causing the issue, although if the radio can play the song directly I dont see why that same filename format shouldnt work with a playlist. Anyhow I renamed the file to something that didnt have spaces or an ' but that didnt help either..... ugh.. |

you can make folders and put the music files in them and use the folders as your so called playlists, then you can just search by folders and play from them

Can someone explaine the BASICS of how the files on the USB will play? Are they alphabetical? If sorted into folders, will a folder play its contents alphabetically, and then move on to the next folder, or are the folders ignored completely?

Songs are played in the order added to the folder. I put a 3 digit number in front of the song to hold its place in the playlist (001 Back in Black.mp3, 002 Enter Sandman.mp3, etc). The playlist will keep em in order since it sees the number 1st. Right now I have about 7 different playlists with around 200 songs in each. The radio unit has a folder that alphabetically detects all songs from all 7 folders. Nice feature- but I ended up putting wife's country music on a differfent flashdrive since I'd go crazy listening to Metallica, then Carrie Underwood. iTunes can make mp3 versions of songs- you can fit approx 160-200 mp3 type songs on 1 CD (About 695 MB). I use iTunes to create playlists, then burn them to a cd, then copy n paste the songs on the cd to a folder on the flashdrive. One folders name (for ex) is #1 Killer Camaro Tunes. This folder will show up on top first because of the #1.

Im barely gonna try the usb thing tonight.
its supposed to read .wma and .mp3 as well a lot of my music is .wma (because you can rip an original CD into lossless bitrate .wma files) so i was very happy with it. im celebrating my 10 day anniversary with my 2010 tonight |

You leave the flash drive in the USB port. The radio has no storage for music.

But it all depends on how much music you have. But due to the 2500 song limit, I'd say no larger than 16gb. |

Get a 2nd iPod used or something? It remembers the the last playlist, random setting, etc and doesn't need to index every time you start the car.
