does a velocity stack behind a conical filter make a difference? I only ask as I have never seen (to my knowledge) that setup effect a change to the air speed.

I say to my knowledge because for all I know every intake has a VS and I havent been paying attention.

How can a velocity stack that transitions directly to the intake pipe be a bad thing.

Not all intakes have a velocity stack. To my knowledge, Halltech is the only Camaro intake that has a built in full velocity stack. The Rotofab is smoothed out to enhance the transition but nothing to the extent the Halltech has. Some of the filters have a velocity stack type transition to where it clamps to the intake tube.

The WishList layaway plan. I like it.

Actually our short ram intake has a velocity stack built into our heatshield housing too. If our heatshield housing does not have a velocity stack, our filters will have one built in it.

As it turns out, I have my bet on either the Injen or the other (sorry I cant remember the manufacturers name) intake that draws cool air from the fender... Does the long-intake have a VS on the end or the filter and/or is the intake tunnel too long for a VS to really make a difference way down in the fender like that?

Who of the list of intakes is actually trying to get CARB certified is the real question. I would love to see some of these high-quality pieces actually become legal in California/Oregon/Washington...

You will not find any that will be able to comply with CARB. The hydrocarbon trap that is in the stock box will be the issue.

We tried unsuccessfully to get our intakes CARB complaint and after 1 year gave up. They wanted proof that the carbon trap would not come off.

Proof in the form of a 150,000 mile test.

This requirement cannot be waived and we had already invested in $5,000 worth of the exact traps that GM used on the Corvette, and complied with mountains of initial requirements and paperwork.

Our attorney told us that this was a bridge to nowhere.

Carbon trap? to catch carbon as it goes INTO your engine?

Thats great... make the law so complicated that there is no feasible way to comply with it, and who gets to pay for that? We do... with every ticket, and the R&D cost that gets passed along to us from the manufacturer... so my 35k Camaro is really only a 10k car, with 25k worth of government agenda attached to it. Awesome.
