just did mine, easy as pie!

got my cap from rock auto, took about 10 minutes to key the lock, and i sprayed it lightly with super lube before inserting into the cap, works perfect.

took the filler door off as described, needle nose popped out the old tether, and new tether snapped right back in, perfect write up, thanks.

just did mine, followed the pictures but took me some time to figure out both R and L side used the same key number, even though the cap came with 4 sets for each side. anyway, worked like a charm, excellent directions from posts 1 and 20.

Thanks for the DIY, just coded my gas cap. Your step by step pictures made it very easy! This was on a 2013 so it definitely works on 2013 models.

hey guys

i was on my car, and now i am no more sure, then the gas cap with the key, is ok on my zl1. the white piece on the gas cap, this, which go inside the gas insert is longer then the stock one.

the key lock woks fine, I am not reliably whether the catch am close.

anybody knows if the gas inserts are different between ss and zl1 ?

I personally can't say but would wonder why they would change the threading part that I think you're referring to which goes into goose neck. Just seems odd to change that over all over models, SS/RS/LS. Did you place both caps side by side to make a comparison?

Ordered my locking gas cap right before the holidays and after a long vacation, I just got around to installing it. Thanks for the clear installation instructions which make it an easy install!

I never noticed that when I installed mine.
But I just went out and looked and yes on the locking cap, the white threaded part is about 8MM longer than the stock one.
I have not had any issues yet.

Great post!

Any idea if the many left over tumblers are useful to a locksmith?
