FRAM IS MAKING OUR AC DELCO OIL FILTERS
http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...-upf48r-7.html
I saw this thread in the Corvette forum. It is full of great stuff about engine oil filters. Yesterday, page 7, post 132 shows that Fram Filters bought, a couple of years ago Champion Laboratories. Champion Labs make the AC Delco, K & N, Mobile 1, Royal Purple oil filters. They have a cut up comparison of an AC Delco filter 5 years ago and todays AC Delco oil filter made by Fram. Wow This sucks. This post started 5 years ago cutting up every oil filter and comparing them to AC Delco filters. Someone revisited the AC Delco filter now made by Fram. It is garbage. |

If you click on this link, it takes you to page 2 of this thread. Scroll down till you see #23 reply. This shows a cut up Napa Gold and a cut up Napa Platinum engine oil filter. Those filters are made by Wix Filters. Those filters tested and look great. The only difference between the Gold and the Platinum engine oil filters are the filtering media. The Gold is a Glass Enhanced Cellulose Media, designed for synthetic blends and conventional engine oil. The Platinum is a Fully Synthetic Media, designed for fully synthetic engine oil. I have been using Wix engine oil filters, air filters, fuel filters, all my life. They make great stuff. Next time I need to do an oil change, I will be putting a Napa Gold engine oil filter. Now I understand why the last three times I replaced my engine oil filter, using the factory AC Delco crushed inward, tearing apart when I tried to remove it. I thought I had over tightened it. What a mess it made. Dimitri |

Are there better filters than purolator? Probably but everyone really hates fram because of the cardboard endcaps where purolator and many others use metal. Funny thing is that the top of line fram uses metal and the ac Delco pf48e uses cardboard and the pf48 uses metal. I would guess it's not just the brand but also a brands particular product line. You get what you pay for so stay away from the $5 filter and go for the $10 one. So who makes the best $10 filter? Do these suck? They have metal endcaps and wire backed synthetic media for increased durability...lol...it says so on the box
