College graduate rebate

Hi,

I just discovered that recent college graduates qualify for a $1,000 rebate from GM. I already ordered my Camaro and called the rep today since he made no mention of it during the sale (even though I told him I just recently graduated). He said that it's preferred pricing. He said that even with the $1,000 off the preferred price, my price of invoice+$100 might be better.

Is this how it works? I can't get the $1,000 off my invoice+$100 price?

You should be aboe to. Gm reinburses dealers for rebates so the rebare has nithing to do with the price already negotiated

Well he could be right. Not sure how this works, but basically all GM rebates are supposed to be taken off MSRP. Not sure if you can combine college and supplier pricing.

GM does pay back for the rebate, but again not sure what the rules are for that. If I were you I would call some of the reputed dealers on this forum and see what they say.

I looked into this in 2010. Unless it has changed, the college rebate gives you "preferred pricing." It is just like the supplier pricing. It does not work like a normal rebate. Under the rules, GM sets the price out the door, and the dealers are not allowed to negotiate beyond that. In 2010 when dealers where not giving an inch on pricing, the supplier pricing was cheaper. Today, there are better deals, and your already negotiated deal may actually be better, depending on how much off the sticker the dealer is giving you. To find out for sure, you can go onto Chevrolet's web site, build your car, and look up exactly what the preferred price is for your exact vehicle.

Supplier discount = student/recent graduate discount = preferred pricing You can not combine discounts (I was a student & supplier so I couldn't get $2,000 off (or whatever it was at the time)). The $xxxx off is just saying what you would save off of the MRSP at the time, not an actual rebate or coupon type discount. Turns out that the deal offered to me was better than my "discount" would have been (and I got employee pricing on all of my extras I bought at the time of the sale).

I always see stated rebates as a shell game. Never rush into anything.
