The only fair way to compare would be automatic vs automatic or manual vs manual. IMHO

Considering Tennis_pro's level of knowledge of the 5.0, I would take what he says about the performance of the 5.0 with a grain of salt.

Based on the number of threads he posted on AFM he never raced the car, only took what he said earlier in this thread from hearsay from other people. No experience.

Although, he did say he really loved the car especially going from a tuned 335I which made the same HP as his 5.0 (tune only) and really appreciated it.

There are plenty of 11 second 5.0's with Drag Radials, Intake/Tune and maybe a mid-pipe. Even faster once you start changing out headers, adding some control arms and slicks, etc.

For the record, 400 RWHP is EASILY achievable for a bolt-on 5.0. See sig.

400 RWHP is what you get with light bolt ons and a tune. However, without drag radials, you are looking at mid to low 12's, not 11's. Drag radials, now you are easily in the 11's. But street tires on both ZL1 and 5.0 with light bolt on and tune, I say the ZL1 wins every time, with driver skill being equal obviously. I came from a 5.0 and can tell you the ZL1 pulls much harder than the 5.0 Don't get me wrong though, the 5.0 is absolutely incredible. The ZL1 is just stronger.

The 5.0 however with a few more mods could walk a ZL1. Plenty of people on the forums running 11's on street tires. I wouldn't say however that they were "lightly" modded.

Up here there is a 2013 Auto 5.0 that has ARH Longtubes, catted H pipe into a 3" exhaust, Boss heads, Comp Stage 3 cams tuned to use all 50 degrees of VCT and valve timing, Cobra Jet Intake, CJ throttle body and intake tube, 3.31 gears, 3800 stall, suspension mods and an aluminum DS.

Fairly extensive mods, but in 1500 foot DA, I personally watched it run 10.95 @ 123 mph at 3700lbs. Stock trans and long block.

Put down 495 whp and 403 wtq. Still gets 25 mpg on the highway and sounds like a prostock motor at full power.

Not bad for a stock displacement, N/A 5.0

With over 5k in mods, I would expect it to run that time. I am assuming either slicks or street legal slicks.

DR'S, yeah. 265/40/18 PSS's on TSW Nurburgring's out front with 285 MT DR's on AlumaStar ' s out back.

Driver says he's run 10.70 at 124 on full slicks with skinnies out front up at Pacific Raceways in Seattle ...but I can't confirm that because I didn't see it.

Define "Light Bolt-ons" ?

A Stock ZL1 is much quicker than a 5.0 However, I don't recall you ever modding your 5.0 so you don't really know how hard a bolt-on 5.0 pulls. The question the OP posted wasn't a bolt-on ZL1 Vs. a Bolt-on 5.0.

However, it doesn't take engine work in a 5.0 to go 10's. There are a lot of guys that have been forward on their mods and have never opened their motors. Sure, they've got aggressive stalls, are running race gas or E85 and have a good amount of weight reduction.

Depends on the setup. Setups similar to mine with some suspension and a set of Drag Radials are low-mid 11's @ 118-121 depending on temps/driver and track prep full weight.

Can we all agree both are great, formable, performing cars?

Seems like most people get their nose bent of of joint if anyone mentions their Camaro is faster than a Mustang or vice versa.
