Worth it to switch
I currently own a 2ss with a L99 engine. Is the experience worth it to trade to a LS3 or even upgrade my engine and trans. Thanx

Well I see you're in Atlanta and my experience with Atlanta traffic would tell me to keep the auto trans.

For me, my LS3 makes the car so much more fun to drive. I only drive it 5 months out of the year though. If you are in traffic a lot then the auto might be easier on your leg and mind!

If you're going from the L99, i think your only upgrade truly would be to go to a LSA

From a seat-of-the-pants perspective, there's probably not much incentive to do a swap. I've had some good seat time in both L99/auto and LS3/manual configurations, and while I know which one I'd buy new if I had to choose, they're both very fun and the difference probably isn't worth swapping out the powertrain.

You don't want to do Atlanta rush hour in a standard shift... if you can help it.

I absolutley love having my manual. There are those times leaving work that I catch traffic and it does suck for 15 or 20 minutes. The rest of the time. In my opnion it is worth it, but that depends on your city, commute, planned mods, ETC.....

Lets face it. The only real reason most people contemplate switching to manual(myself included), is because of the pressure and chastising we get from our manual shifting peers. In the end my car is the same and can go as fast if not faster(if it were a high powered drag car) being an automatic. I love my car and I only use the paddle shifters, except for rare situations where I absolutely need to take a phone call. These are just my feelings.

I gotta agree, I get more fun from shifting gears then with an auto. But is that alone worth it to switch? I'd have to say probably not.

...just like those that say going from an automatic to a manual is an 'upgrade'....

If you prefer an automatic, that's cool. For me, I prefer a manual. Even though my commute has a fair amount of stop and go, I have no desire for an automatic. For a short time, drove a vehicle with an automatic as a daily driver. It lasted about 6 months before I couldn't stand it anymore and bought a car with a manual. |
