Anyone go over 118 yet in a V-6?

I have read on here many times and have seen on the Chevy website myself the little mssg about tire size/speed rating giving different top speeds (118-155) on the V-6, but I heard from a very, very reliable source that EVERY V-6 is set to 118 regardless of tires size/speed rating. I'm curious, any V-6 owners that have had their car over 118 without reprogramming anything? Also, it seems like every V-6 should have the same top speed cause I imagine at the production level, changing the top speed governor on each V-6 depending on what tire size that Camaro has would be a nightmare???

I thought the automatics had it governed ( I saw 115 or 105 ), the manuals were not governed.

It is not the tranny, it is the tires that were original ordered.

18" slower
19-20" faster

Manual V-6s get the limited slip, Auto V-6s do not, if maybe that is what you were thinking of?

Someone go find a open stretch of road and get on it, we need a definate answer 118 or 155

I think its weird that both the SS and LT's are governed at 157. I bet its more the V6 is drag limited to about 157 and the V8 has a true governor.

I just can't see a 304 HP Camaro being governed at 118 if it is capable of so much more than that. Could be wrong, and if so, that governor is comin off!

It's the TIRES. The 18" tires that you get on specific models are NOT rated to go any faster than 118 miles per hour!

Once you get the 19's on there the tires are rated much higher at 155 mph. that is why the LS and 1LT is speed limited that low.

Took this from another thread.

The 2LT has base 19s anyway so it would be set to 155 regardless

Besides the RS package, there is another way to get the higher speed rated tires on a 1LT ... the "Q9B" option ... polished 19" wheels give you the same tires as the 2LT.

Talking

I can say for a FACT that a V-6 2LT is NOT governed at 115, I have run my 2LT at 140 on a freshly paved stretch of freeway and I cruised right along for about a mile. I had pedal left, but did not want to push it. I have an automatic tranny and in sport mode it shifted into 6th gear at 125 MPH.

if you order the RS package on the 1LT, will it be limited at 155?

as been stated before, its only the base LS model with the 18" wheels that is limited to 118.
