By doing so, Chevrolet, unwittingly or not, came close to building one of the best American sports sedans ever made. "With the Z/28," Car and Driver observed, "Chevy is on the way toward making the gutsy stormer the Camaro should have been in the first place."

Unfortunately, the Z28 hasn't been anything really special since about 1970. The name was kinda stuck to some Camaro's over the years, but nothing special beyond year 2.

Everytime I see that car on the left I think it looks like a 5th gen Camaro & a 2 door Toyota Echo had had a baby. The one on the right is pretty interesting. Maybe GM is thinking of starting it's own Scion level brand. Or maybe these two Chevy's are waiting for Arrowhead's to be installed on the fascia's. Both look pretty appropriate for the Pontiac brand.

As Chevrolet monitors C5 forums, they must recognize the tremendous marketing opportunity the Z28 name plate has to the public, not just us crazy Camaro people, but to the United States of America!! The 5th gen rebirth plus the execution of the 1LE, ZL1 and COPO models tells me Chevy gets it - almost like one of us! (Note the design details of the ZL1 exhaust system We can dream \ wish \ drool \ pray for a killer Z28 model or how Chevrolet may just throw some badges and bolt-on's onto a 6 cylinder Camaro, but I'm not going to sit here and listen to you bad mouth the United States of America!! (Sorry, Animal House flashback...) All kidding aside, I am confident the current DNA of Chevrolet will resurrect the Z28 as a proud member of the Camaro lineage when the design and timing is right! Make us proud Chevrolet - I'll take one if your execution is great!!

The Z28 is probably going to take the 1SS place. After all, that's how it should have been in the first place. Z28s have always been the stripped versions of an SS. No features, no leather, and the basic sound system. I would have bought that if it was available. Problem is price wise, you can find a used loaded 2SS for the price of a new V6. Did it. I don't think I will ever buy another Camaro as this one has changed my mind on them. I love the car, but I am having to plan on how I'm going to fix the HORRIBLE exterior quality.

So does this mean that they only own the rights to the Z28 nameplate and not the Z/28 which I prefer?

The slash character (/) would have to be specifically enumerated in a second Application filing as a variation of the original Z28.

It is my understanding that the ZL1 was supposed to be named the Z28, but GM found that their rights to the name had expired.
