I love my 2014 L99 and do not care for the 2016 at all.
Besides, with cam and lifter changes that difference between the LS3 and L99 field narrows real quick. |

Mr. Blair speaketh the truth. If someone offered me a tune that would add either 15ft/lbs of torque to my car OR 15hp but not both, I'd take the torque.
Low HP diesel cars are a great example you can feel. I did a vacation one year and rented a car in the South of France and drove to Geneva. It was a 1.6 litre diesel station wagon with a rating of 115hp. That damn thing pulled harder off the line (remember, the fastest cars in the world are rental cars) than my BMW 320i back home. The lithe diesel ran up steep mountain roads with very little downshifting. Torque sets you back in the seat. My 67 Land Rover diesel only has 67hp, but I pulled a 14,000lb boat up a boat ramp with it. Torque and mechanical advantage of gearing is a wonderful thing.

Don't just look at the HP as it only tells part of the story, look also at the torque ratings, big difference there....

In reality, who in here is going fast enough on the road consistently to actually use the peak HP rating on a V8? Torque is the fun number not HP.
This is the first V8 bashing thread by a V8 owner I've seen on here lol. So I guess we need a ZL1 owner to pop in and say "shoulda bought a ZL1"

Agree with above posters, you don't get a chance to rev this engine out much. The low end torque is the very fun part. I was one of those who went from v6 to v8. The v6 felt lighter but didn't handle better. The steering felt heavier on the v6. It had a nice tone to it too. In the V8 while on paper it may not sound good, there is lots of power. Nowadays people consider 400lb/ft to be a small number, it isn't. Cars are getting a lot faster, the 6th gen camaro is getting close to some supercars from several years ago. With regards to the L99, past three digits the weight of the car has its toll. The 1LE does better in those higher speeds.

Its all about the Torque,
LLT V6 3.6 312HP/278TQ LFX 3.6 V6 323HP/278TQ L99 6.2 V8 400HP/410TQ LS3 6.2 V8 426HP/420TQ Difference between V6 and V8. L99 V8 has 77HP/132TQ more than LFX V6. LS3 V8 has 103HP/142TQ more than LFX V6. Its all about the Torque. Torque is what give you that Low End Grunt Seat of the Pants Feeling. Horse Power gives you that Top End Speed. |

In these cars, how does one have more torque without making more power? Remember, HP = (TQ * RPM)/5252.
Torque is just the force (like thrust) used. Horsepower is defined as the movement of a a mass over a distance in a given time. Sounds like what we do in a race to me.
