Winter (cold) weather tire suggestions

Hey guys!

I am picking up my car tomorrow and I am thinking about swapping out the F1's for the winter. I will be driving this car daily and the Memphis area can get very cold and nasty at times. I have had a bunch of fun cars with summer tires but always had a "bad weather" car...my back up is a GTR now...so the ZL1 will get the nod day in and day out.

Any good winter tires recommended? Also would prefer OEM sizes of course...tire rack wasn't too helpful unless you search for an individual tire. I would prefer to use what others have used on this car, gen 5 or gen 6.

Scott

I am in Michigan and now have Michelin Latitude X-ice tires on my gen 5 and absolutely love them (275/40r20). I previously had a pair of Perrelli scorpion which were fine for a couple years but were more expensive didn't hold up very long.

I noticed you didn't go down to 18 inch winter tires and stuck with
The 20 inch for winter. Any reason why you didn't go with the 18s?
Don't you believe in the smaller the tire the more they cut Thru the snow?

Thanks for the feedback...

Did you just put those tires on your OEM wheels?

I originally got the Perelli's to fit the OEM wheels to avoid having to buy separate winter rims. However, I eventually bought some inexpensive 20" wheels to avoid having to swap the tires every spring and fall. I don't know how much better 18" wheels would work, but I use my ZL1 as a daily driver year round and these tires work VERY well.

Do you remember the actual 20" sizes that you got that didn't mess up the tire height etc........?

I have the Pirelli Sottozero 3's (From Tire Rack) and they are fabulous Winter Performance tire.
They have spot on sizes for the ZL1 front and rear.
The Ice and Deep snow capability is not as good as the Blizzacks (terrible Performance), but they handle normal conditions just fine and the Performance is still there!
I just drove through a recent 5 inch snow and ice storm, without issues. I will get a set for my Z also!

Anyone running 35's on the front and rear out there? I was told that there might be a little rubbing on a rear sensor that could be easily repositioned. Just wondering if anyone has actually done the 285 35 20 front and 305 35 20 rear.
I already have a set of 285's which is why I'm curious. Also does it matter if i were to run a michelin all season on the front and a Pirelli winter or Bfgoodrich all season on the rear. Suggestions? Also it would not be driven in the snow at all just more for getting decent traction in the cold weather.

I just put Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 All-Season Tire - 245/40R20 on my SS. I bought 4 8.5 inch wheels from a dealer on Ebay that were take offs on an RS. For winter tires I did not think the stagger was needed. Love the ride and will not get ROF tires when I replace the summer tires.

Any errors or squirrelly behavior going square verses staggered widths front to back? I would rather have the deep snow traction with thinner tires, but was not sure if it would foul up the electronics.
