Why did the gas cap move?
The concept car had the gas cap on top of the body. Does anyone know why is was moved to its present location? I thought it had a cool flare the other way.

Better functionality, Easier to use, overall design and engineering of the car is better with it moved, It's relation ship with the G8/commadore platform, and the car being designed in austrailia, alot of variables went into the decision to have it on the right side of the car.
Plus we will be a minority at gas pumps, we will just be able to pull straight into a pump instead of driving around. Kind of a plus there. |

LOL, this has been beat to death for over a year now, several factors were considered, mainly the Camaro had a price range to be in, and a fancy gas cap just was one of the things that got cut to keep the cost down. I am sure that type would also have more weight, which the Camaro has too much of in the first place. not to mention the care needed when adding gas to keep from scratching the paint, or spilling fuel on the car..
I know those reasons are probably not a concern to you but ease of use is what alot of people base their purchase on, and having to take extra pains when fueling is probably something most people wouldn't want to do.

Also, the biggest factor was safety regulations.
Please don't let Tag see this thread. We almost lost him last time... I don't think his heart can take it...

You guys have NO idea. And...the main reason to date (since I remember this!!!) is because, "we want this car to meet 5 star safety crash regulations. and that means moving the gas cap to the side of the car. we don't want the car to blow up." I remember asking how the car would blow up if the cap was on top. I don't remember an answer...because THERE WAS NONE! BAH! It's okay, though. Now I'm pulling someone's leg...hehehe. *poke-poke* Moving to the other side was supposed to be a "global design" and response...make it uniformed. Moving it to the side was for safety. Still don't see how. Numerous issues were brought up and I came up with solutions. But, guess it's less expensive, less work, safer, and easier to just put it on the other side....oh, and it saves the door from hitting the metal poles at the pumps (for those who don't know how to open a damn car door....sad)...oh, and because gas spills and could mess up the paint...because people don't know how to fill a tank without spilling a drop (cause they're freaking careless and don't give a crap about a drop or two until it messes up their paint and then they come crying back to the dealer, "my paint is fading! GM messed up! Poor design! I want it fixed! I'm a moron when it comes to filling up my tank and can't put the gas IN the tank! I let it spill and now want my WARRANTY!). Please... Sad when .....ugh...nevermind... |

Calm down tag,,, It will be okay. Us corvette fans understand. We had some on the top gas caps, and we know what to do...
1. remove nozzle from pump 2. hold sideways parallel to planet earth 3. when you get to hole (this is important) perform a 90 degree twist maneuver to insert nozzle into hole. 4. fuel. 5. When done, remove nozzle, and twist nozzle a little past parallel to the planet earth ABOVE THE HOLE! 6. once clear of car turn nozzle back into pump. Really its not that hard. I even do this on monte. I don't understand why people let gas get all over their paint. |
