A moment's venting
Bought my car April 1st. That might have been a poor choice.
Second week I had it, a semi kicked up a rock and I wound up replacing the windshield. Last Saturday I went to wash it and discovered a nineish inch scratch in the lower portion of the bumper cover on the passenger side of the car. The girlfriend's response, when I described it to her, as she's the only one that's driven it other than me, was, "Oh, yeah, I heard a scraping sound the other day." To my credit, I didn't even twitch, just hid my spare keys, and resolved to not loan it to her again in the near future. She has apologized profusely since, as she's seen the work I've put into repainting, buffing, and polishing that section of the bumper cover. As of last night, around 8pm, I finally got it to a point where it's not even noticeable to me, unless I really look for it. This morning, on the way to work, in the left middle lane of a four lane stretch of I-75, doing about 75 mph, had just passed a trooper, someone who had miles of open room ahead of them decided to cut me off, apparently they didn't like me going around them, and in doing so ran over a three foot piece of retread. The retread got kicked up when they ran over it, bounced off my hood, bounced off my windshield, and bounced off my roof. The windshield is being replaced as I type, and I now have a brand new set of scratches, only a couple through the paint, as well as about a centimeter square section of raw metal at the corner of the a-pillar and roof line to fix. Thankfully no dents anywhere. No point to any of this beyond, wow, I am more frustrated than I can recall being for a while. The irony factor in having finished one repair, only to be presented with a new set of similar repairs might be worth a laugh or two, I suppose. Anyway, not nearly as bad as owning it for two days to have someone run a stop light, or the like, which we've seen around here lately, just, wow, what's it take to get a bit of a break sometimes, you know? Here's hoping y'all have some better luck than I have been. |

I feel your pain. Driving a car simply results in some damage. A shame but a fact of life. I have a garage queen for the most part but always worry about what road hazard is around the corner.
I grew up in Cincinnati. Are they still working on I-75? I think it's a perpetual project isn't it? I remember we used to call those orange barrels our "state symbol."

No one has really seen I-75 since 1973. There was a traffic jam back then, and it never really cleared up. There have been babies created, born and lived there entire lives on I-75. They suspect some of the cars sitting there are from the original traffic jam, but no one can get through to find out. Seriously though.. it's still a disaster. I think it's still two lanes in one stretch and there is no HOV lane. I avoid it like the plague and my deepest sympathies to anyone has to suffer I-75 every day.

Mine sees daily duty, so it's got some scratches and bruises from stuff outside of my control
I've got a crack in the windshield, some tiny rock chips, a ding in the driver side door, and everytime it rains pollen collects in the small pools of water. It looks like someone painted yellow dots all over my car. The ding was the most upsetting cause I have no idea when it happened or where, but rock chips/cracked glass is kind of par for the course IMO if you drive it. Mine isn't a garage queen so it's going to see some stuff like that. |

sounds like the guy ran over the retread on purpose.
I grew up on I-75 in Ohio and it was fine. Lived in Detroit area and used I-75 regularly without issues. I-696 was a crazy one... you go 80 mph an get passed regularly. There are lots of trucks on it... as most interstates do. |

The thought had crossed my mind. My consolation there is that it did far more damage to his car. Could see his right rear wheel wobbling and his rear bumper cover was no longer completely attached. Really appreciate everyone's kindness here. You all make things like this much easier to handle. Thank you. And Dante, bought a ticket right after I picked up some touch up paint. |
