secondary cat delete

Has anyone removed the secondary cats on their '17 ZL1? My buddy did it on his CTS V and it sounds great.
I am looking for a louder exhaust note.

Personally I would just replace the entire catback exhaust system. Don't hack up the factory exhaust. Huge price difference yes but thats my opinion.

I wouldn't mess with the exhaust manifolds or cats until ready to have it tuned. I would not want to take the chance of getting a CEL or running lean. If you want a louder exhaust note then the quickest way to do that is to get a catback or to do the fuse pull. And that way you won't be messing up the stock exhaust pieces or getting a CEL and then having to spend even more money on a tune and void your warranty.

Must have had an exhaust leak(s).
The secondary cats are after the 2nd O2 sensors.

Yeah to my understanding deleting the secondary cats wouldn't throw a code. I have done the fuse pull...doesnt really do much of anything. Also doing a tune would definitely void the warranty. I know, lets not get on that discussion.
Just wondering if someone has done it. I think I might do it and just see what it sounds like. Could always do a cat back later.

I'm 99% sure the rear cats are not monitored. You could swap the x-pipe and get rid of the secondary (rear cats). The only thing actually monitored in the exhaust is the first set of cats after the exhaust manifolds.

Pulling the fuse does not make the exhaust louder... need to get a catback for a louder exhaust. Secondary cats are not monitored. No CEL.

Secondary cat del doesnt throw code unless your welder sucks. It adds a lot of rasp at wot and a bit of volume, maybe 15-20%. No added drone or rasp at normal speeds. No cel.

I suppose electric cutouts pre cats (both) if there is room, would cause CEL?
Electric cutouts after both cats would for sure increase exhaust sound level without removing entire exhaust. Anyone tried cutouts yet?
Doesn't look like there is room though.

Just deleted secondary cats...not worth the money imo, could have used the money spent towards a cat back...no difference that my ears could pick up other than a slightly louder start up note which I have actually not been liking early in the morning as I have an infant in the house...lol

How much was the labor/materials if you don't mind me asking? And yeah I can relate to you...my wife hates it when I start it in the morning and the pipes are facing the house... I have a 3 year old and 6 month old, they are terrified of the ZL1!! Haha!!

I pulled the fuse and noticed on the highway it's slightly louder crushing at low RPMs since the flap is kept open 100% at all times. Might be the furthest I'll go at this point if you are saying it's not worth it for the secondary cats delete. Especially since I track it and if anything happens I don't want the dealer to point the finger at me for modding the exhaust.
