Smile HPDE Lapping in traffic

Every once and a while you come across a gathering of cars all traveling a bit slower than yourself. Passing practice!

Here's two minutes of me passing:
  • Miata
  • M2 - BMW
  • Mustang 5.0
The only reason it took me longer to catch the Mustang was the time i lost waiting for the Bimmer to get to a passing zone.

Sweet!

I saw like 4-5 SS 1LE's there.
Saw one ZL1-1LE
and a regular ZL1.

What color you got there!
How's the lap times?

Mine was the red ZL1-1LE.

There was one of the instructors in the advanced group in a grey 2019 RS that was tearing it up.

I was in the beginner group, only my second event. I managed a 2:44.31 as a new personal best.

getting point-bys from the McLaren 650s in the group was pretty neat but that thing left me for dead in the straights.

Heyy nice driving there!!

That's a cooking lap time considering you were in the Beginner group.

It's usually difficult to get clean laps with slower traffic.

Yours = 2:44.31
Mine = 2:47.52 in intermediate

I have more work to do!!

Looked like everybody was wide of the apex in the left-hander at about 0:35 and 1:40, which compromises entry into the following right-hander a bit. Was there a reason for this that isn't apparent in the video?

TBH, after watching more and more footage of intermediate and looking at registration stats, I'm going to hang in beginner for a while... Seems the beginner rungroup is smaller. When I do come up on traffic, they are easier to get around because folks are much slower. The only downside is less places where passing is allowed and you might get folks that aren't aware enough to give you the point by (I got stuck behind an ATS-V and a 924 turbo for longer than I would have liked.)

I worry that egos might increase in intermediate and advance and you get some chuckleheads that don't want to let you by. I find that in the two events I have done the beginner group has GREAT manners on track.

Hey Norm!

Thanks for watching

The spot at 0:35 sec i was backing off the M2 cuz i damn near punted him off in the braking zone.

The apex @ 1:40 was me following the Mustang's bad line lol

I'll find my hot lap of the day and see if that one looks any better
