20"x8" & 20"x9" SS Wheels on a 1LE?
Hi there,
I've heard that the Goodyear G2's crack below freezing temperatures and aren't very good in the wet and cold. So if I buy another set of wheels, I can store the original OEM 1LE wheels/tires indoors during the winter. So, a friend of mine in Florida is looking to sell his 20" OEM wheels to me that came of his 2013 SS with the RS package. He say's they are 20"x8" for the fronts and 20"x9" for the rears. The shipping is going to be expensive so unfortunately I can't try them out and send them back. I'm looking to ship them to the United Kingdom and put them on my 1LE during the winter months. The 1LE tire options are limited here in the UK so I'm hoping that by putting these wheels on the car, it will also open up my options for tires that are available over here. Since the 1LE wheels are 2" wider than these SS wheels, I'm worried that this set up might not be good for the car. Can someone confirm if I'll just be able to simply put the tires on the rims and then bolt them straight onto my 1LE? Or will I need to do some adjustments to the car first? Maybe add spacers for example? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks. |

not a problem, the 2SS/RS wheels will fit perfectly on the 1LE (they have the same brakes, only the caliper color is different)

Ok great, someone told me that the 1LE has spacers and the SS doesn't, is that garbage?
On a different page of this forum someone said that if I put SS wheels on my 1LE I'll need to fit spacers, is that correct? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

SS wheels will fit fine. Just do not go trying to carve corners with that setup, you are going to get allot more understeer. I had that issue after putting on my 1LE suspension and did not get it fixed till I went with square tire setup.

Thanks for confirming I can use these 20" SS wheels. :-)
Am I best to go with the standard 20" SS tire sizes also? For example: Front: 245/45ZR20 (103Y) Rear: 275/40ZR20 (106Y) Or should I go for the same tire size all around? |

As mentioned already, for "dry" handling, you are best with as square or "neutral" setup as possible, since the car's suspension has been tuned for this. but if your driving style is "relaxed" I see no problems with standard tire sizes on those wheels. I think even a few people on here have used these wheels/tyres in a 1LE on a track a few times, so it's definitely doable... would probably be best if they commented on their experiences though. If you are going to drive it in snow/freezing temps, pick up a set of all-season tyres if at all possible. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
