Unfortunately I still have not shipped any of the test units. I've been fiddling with the heat shield/box trying to fix a fitment issue. I have the first test intake complete and ready to ship, I'm just waiting on the lids at the moment, and then it's off for testing!
I have made one change to the silicone intake tube to test out... I made the tube longer than it needs to be to connect to the velocity stack / filter clamp (VS/FC) piece. Doing so allowed me to make a cut out around the MAF mount, so that the tube would slide onto the tubular section of the VS/FC piece almost up to the transition... So not only will the inside of the airbox be insulated with silicone sheeting, almost the entire portion of the tubular VS/FC piece will also be covered on the outside from the 1/4" thick silicone intake tube doubling as it's insulation. Hopefully this will ensure super low IAT vs Ambient temps, however more testing must be done to see... How low can you go??? Just a hurry up and wait game now. |

I know I said the first test intake would ship this week, but after some thought I decided rather than send something out that really wasn't super awesome, and ship it on Friday only to have it sit at UPS all weekend, I decided to take my time and finish up some of the final "awesome" details over the weekend and it will ship Monday.
And so with that, the first silicone insulation piece for the inside of the airbox was removed from the mold today! I'm pretty excited about it. Sometime in the near future I think I will do a video comparison between the silicone, and another insulation commonly found 'round these parts I think you will find it entertaining. Pics below show the insulation laying flat, tried to show and end view it's between 1/4 - 5/16" thick, and the last pic just on an air box to give you an idea. Hard to see but the silicone extends past the aluminum appx 3/8" and will act as the seal against the body of the car as well if all goes according to plan. Pics aren't that great, they were taken on my phone. |
