Those are pictures of my splitter. The middle picture is where the rivet is exposed in the wheel well and the other two pictures show how it's separating. It doesn't look like there's any tape like the dealer thought, but I think it's just poor workmanship. Any advise?

Sorry if the pictures are bad, it's FREEZING here in Florida and it was dark when I got home...but the good news is that my new Corsa exhaust was waiting on my front porch :-)

i dont think everyone is saying that your splitter was not taped on, i think they are trying to say they should not be solely held on to the vehicle with the tape.

The splitter is pretty much entirely riveted on. The black mounting "strips" get riveted to the bumper cover, the splitter snaps onto the strips and there are some additional points for which the splitter is riveted to the bumper cover.

After seeing some comments here on the forums prior to picking up mine, I installed my splitter. Was not difficult, instructions were not that bad (IMHO), but like many things the installer NEEDS to pay attention to the fine details.

The black pieces behind the splitter need to be installed perfect, that is, centered, symmetrical, and flat on the bumper cover. Or else the splitter will not sit tight. While those strips seem like a caveman engineered them, they are actually high quality and will mount perfect and subsequently the splitter itself.

Dealerships need to put their best, detail oriented, patient tech/body man on these splitter installs!

Here's a link for GM's 2013 1LE install instructions. 2014 is slightly different.

Anyone have any thoughts on where the rivet is exposed in the wheel well? I suppose they can hide it but that's really pathetic.

My front bumper cover is off for the Z/28 brake duct install. I installed that rivet the other way (it's the one nearest my thumb).

While mine is covered by the ZL1 air deflectors, without them that side of the rivet looks better.

OP, I'm trying to remember my install details enough to figure out where your install went wrong.

It may be that it is with the rivet installation you point to, and that it can be fixed by drilling out that rivet and reinstalling. I think (but am unsure), there was a screw on there also on the 14/15 models -- and there may be room to use that screw to pull the splitter more flush. If you unscrew the wheel well liner and pull it back a little, you might see said screws.

Okay, OP, it is coming back to me.

Two points:

1. The mounting hardward has "tabs" that are used to ensure positioning, but get broken off once the hardware is on and before the splitter is installed. Those tabs were NOT broken off on the dealer's original install of mine, thus causing the hardware and splitter to stick out. That may or may not be the problem for you.

2. When I installed the new splitter, I ended up using a small, black screw where you now see that goobered rivet. This allowed me to suck the splitter in tight. So, if you stuck your head into the wheel well, you would see the black screw head instead of the rivet. Obviously, I was careful to NOT use one that would go all the way through and puncture the exterior of the splitter. That might be a possible fix for you, but I can't tell for sure not being there.

USMUCL nailed it with the unremoved tabs, though I have no screws on my install. The rivet near my thumb in the above pic is part of the final 10 rivets that are installed, 8 along the bottom rear and 1 each at the ends.

Well, the body shop at the dealership said they will fix her and they know how to install them properly. They said that when it came in one of the "detailers" installed it!!!Really?!!! Wow... but, I also dropped off 2 big boxes that they are installing for free. One is my new Corsa quad-tip exhaust and the other is the new rear fascia for the quad-tips... They gave me an Impala loaner... nice car, but thank goodness they didn't try giving me a Spark or Volt hahaha... I sincerely appreciate everyones help with this matter and I will update you when I get her back next week.

They exposed "rivet" on mine looks like the flared out "star" expansion screw slightly above the rivet. it's not exposed on the driver side but it appears they drilled too far back on the passenger side. I think it was supposed to be inside of the wheel well liner. Knuckleheads
