Shorty headers

Hi, I am putting on a pair of Headman shorty headers on my 2011 ss ls3 and high flow cats. My question is do i remove the stock exhaust and the stock cats in one unit,or do i take them apart? And when i am putting on the shorty headers do i put them on first and then the high flow cats? Thanks Mark

IMO the easiest thing is to break it down into stages. take off your stock exhaust components ie mufflers, resonator, then take off your cats, then take off the manifolds. Then vice versa, install your headers, install the high flow cats, then either install new exhaust or put back on the old.

Shortys made my car slower. Waste of time in my opinion. Ran 8.6 stock 1/8 mile then put on shorties started running 9.3-9.2

But why bother if he would be losing performance? Just save up a little longer and get LTs.

OP - are you getting this?

Have Borla shorty's on mine with stock cats. I'm not unhappy with them, but if you're going for the most performance which sounds like you are install High Flow Cats, I would suggest going with Long Tubes.

If I had it to do over, I would have went with LT's and HFC's. That's only because now, I would like to extra giddy-up that they provide.

Just my opinion and thoughts.

Everyone says shorties are a waste, and I tend to agree. OP, if you don't plan on longtubes, you'd be better off sticking with the stock manifolds and just put some high flow cats on. The cats are where the real restriction is. High flows will give you more power and more sound. It's a win-win.

I put headers on my v6 before i got the v8, but obviously same theory... I just went piece by piece. I remove the cats, then the headers.... Then put on the headers, then the cats.

If you keep them connected i don't think you can get them all off at once if you're just using little cats.

Either way, it's a fun mod to do. Take your time and enjoy it. Just go piece by piece to make it easier.

Take the shorties, sell them, and get a good set of long tubes.

Agreed, total waste!
You'll be loosing on the shorties when you sell them lol

Tsp has the Lt's back in stock.

If your putting shorties and hf cats it's gotta be for performance, hope it's not for looks lol.

On the V6, Chevy put a typical cast iron exhaust manifold with poor flow.
When I installed JBA short headers on my V6, I had to cut 9" of pipe off the front of the cat midpipe to maintain the position of the converter.

When I pulled the cats off a friend's L99 V8, I noticed it looked alot like my modified midpipe right off the car.

See pic- modified V6 pipe on top, L99 below-
I think it shows GM put a decent set of "short headers" on the V8
from the factory and you may as well wait on the long tubes or just install
a good set of HFC's on the factory shorts.
