Question For GM Rep.

How Robust and tuff are the V6 engines? Are they built to last, be trouble free and take high mileage? How many trouble free miles can be expected from this engine?

I would assume the warranty period might be a pretty good idea. And if you take care of it, probably longer. Gl.

Maybe you should ask the Camaro5 community that drives v6 models to chime in with their experiences. Since that engine has changed slightly since it came out in 2009, see what kind of reliability people are getting with the original model and the newer one (LFX i believe). I bet some members have some fairly high miles and can tell you just how reliable they are. If you want to ask GM directly, maybe you should PM William or one of the others. I'm a firm believer in "if you take care of the car, it will take care of you" so keep in mind some reliability issues could be more related to the type of care taken with the car rather than design issues or faulty parts/construction. Just my $.02. I don't own either engines so i can't speak to their reliability but would love to hear the answer from both GM and the community. I just think getting real world answers might be a bit more helpful, but GM's answer might enlighten us all.

Lol, do you think a gm rep will say "no the engines aren't made to last high miles and aren't very reliable" wonder where their next job will be for someone who's honest. Hahaha, this was a made up statement by the way.

shrinkdoc,

Our engines are built to operate as designed for the full duration of ownership. In case any concerns arise, we offer a 5-year/100,000 mile (whichever occurs first) powertrain warranty to cover defects in materials or worksmanship as diagnosed by a certified GM dealer. We can assist with any issues at the time of concern and are unable to comment on concerns that may arise in the future.

Ruby has 35K+ miles on her and no problems with the drivetrain. Change the oil every 3000 mi with synthetic oil, get a good quality oil catch can, check your oil frequently & you should be good for a lot of miles. There have been a few of the LLT engines that have had suddenly mysteriously dissappearing oil blow the engines, but not a huge number & warranty has covered most of them. The new V6 engine, the LFX, you will have to ask some of those owners.

Ruby has never burned one bit of oil, but I got her an oil catch can early on. She was my daily driver for the first 2 years in a 70+ Mi round trip combination hwy & urban commute. I drag race her 3-4 times a year and have autocrossed her a couple of times too.

as someone who has owned GM products for several years now. I can go through the engines we currently own.
by years
1972 buick skylark org buick 350, don't know how many miles are on the engine, but I can tell you its never been rebuilt & starts up every time. we drive it hard since its our cruise car. Have to keep up with the big boys.

1987 Camaro Iroc, owned the car since 2001 & it spun main bearings on a dyno. but it had a 137k miles on it & I dragged race that car.

1990 corvette vert, has about 90k miles on it, doesn't get driven that often because of electrical problems NOT engine related.

1995 Camaro Only problem is the opti spark that's the major problem with those. .

1999 Silverado it currently has 167k miles on it & it gets driven like a truck should. no engine problems brake problems but no engine problems.

2010 Camaro SS/RS has about 8k miles on it, doesn't get driven that often but its a summer car for us.

2012 Chevy sonic LT Turbo has close to 30k miles on it & it gets driven daily, this was my daily driver until my husband's mr2 was wrecked 2 weeks
