I would really think that GM would build whatever is ordered first to make sure they are moving and out on the streets. And I would think that the more SS models the better for them since those are the most expensive models. Wonder what the profit margin is by model?

from the Camaro Ordering Guide:
SS MODEL FOCUS Core Camaro Enthusiasts will be the target for the SS model. These customers are very loyal to Camaro, love the Chevy brand and the heritage associated with Camaro. They will seek out Camaro. you know they must have expected this kind of demand for the SS during pre-order. most of my friends don't know a thing about the new camaro and won't till it hits lots; the same could be said for a good majority of buyers (the V6 market). they need to focus on V8 production for the initial run, and after the rush ease back towards the V6.

This not good news for those of us who planned on ordering next spring/summer. If some of you guys who ordered already don't get your cars until September, where does that leave us?

as everyone has said there is no way that the this trend is going to keep up. I for one am waiting till around Christmas before I put in my order for a V6 (only to make sure my current car doesnt die first). Enthusiasts want a V8 thats just known and expected, and right now thats only 5k V8's that are ordered. Even if Chevy was only expecting to get a 40/60 V6/V8 split that still means they were expecting to produce 32k V8's a year (assumption of 80k a year made, yes i know its a low number). there is no way they cant handle this unless they have way over estimated the ability of their plant to produce.

I imagine that GM expected this to happen. Its been mainly the enthusiasts who knew that you could order the Camaro, and few enthusiasts are interested in the V6's (though some are, ~16% it seems). Overall I'm sure that the split will work out to about 30% V8's by the end of 2010.
