Noise when I start the car

My car spends most of the time stored in the garage, only have 1450 miles on her. I start her every three weeks or so and when I do I hear a clunk sound (Sounds like I dropped a hammer on the floor). It does it once and then runs fine (noise free) and no loss of power. It only does after sitting for extending periods time, does not do it when starting consecutive days or weekly. Dealer can't get it to duplicate and says it has no idea. Any idea? Is this something I should worry about?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Not sure.

I have had a bumping sound toward the back every once and awhile. Dealer told me that it was the ABS recalibrating. Your thing sounds like it's something that should be fixed.

it's the sound of the rat in your engine compartment that's been nesting while your car has been siting.

is the a/c is left on? sometimes when it engadges the a/c clutch after it has sat for awhile it can make a thump type noise due to oil built up on the comp. head.. if that makes since to you

it is the A/C unit ..even if your ac unit is not on it will cycle to keep the seals from drying out... Why it bangs like that i don't really know but I have had many GM vehicles over the years and they all have done it..Your ok bro.. not to worry

Is it the clunk you hear when you shut off the car..which is the clutch releasing. Is it that clunk?

I get the same clunk after i let my car sit for about 3 days or more. I was going to ask but OP beat me to it. If its normal then thats a relief.

I have been driving GM products for about 25 years and never had the A/C compressor do this after extended periods of sitting.

Are your vehicles manual transmissions? Is the clutch disk sticking to the flywheel a little during startup? Maybe try to push the clutch in and then release it quickly a few time to make sure the disk is disengaging from the flywheel and see if that cures it.

Mine is noisy after sitting and then starting , but that's the AFM lifters.. The A/C theory sounds like a good one..
