amb door panels repainted?

has anyone repainted their door panels and does the light still work on it? is there a way to do this with out losing the light?

Or you could just do like I did. cover the lit area with tape and paint the rest. It actually works out better; the lighted strip becomes more solid and not faded. I kinda like that better.

So did you just paint the outside of the panel? I am wanting to do this to my panels which have ABL lighting and I am putting it off because I am nervous I'm gonna screw it up
