Leaking Oil

My 2010 Camaro SS LS3 is leaking oil. It is not from the drain plug or the filter. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Yep. It will be any or all of the following:

1) Oil Cooler
2) Oil Pan Gasket
3) Rear Main Seal

Prepare for 2-5 days of your car being parked at the dealer. There are many threads on these cars leaking. A quick search will provide you with the details.

Have your dealer wipe it off and put dye in it. After a short drive they will be able to tell the root cause leak by the dye and black light. The oil cooler would be highly suspicious, especially if dripping off the bottom of the cooler. The wind can blow it around and make it look like many other things are also leaking.

I had a '10 that looked like the pan, r seal, and cooler was leaking.... actually it was just the cooler. And just replacing the seals won't fix it, often needs the whole cooler. I found that out on my third trip in.

This.

The problem is that most dealers will tell you that they have a process outlined by GM tech and they must do the o-ring and seals first. Consider that your wasted trip because they will start leaking again soon after.

In 1997 I bought a new Camaro SS, after 2500 miles it developed a rear main leak, I refused to let the dealer remove the engine to replace the seal because we all know the car would have never been the same, I went round and round with GM and they finally sent me $2,500 and told me to trade it on a new SS, I did. After about 3,000 miles on the 2nd one it did the same thing. I immediately took the 2nd SS and traded it for a Cobra Mustang. Problem solved. I did find out afterwards that GM was having problems with whatever they use as glue or whatever when they were installing the rear main seals in these SS's and it was a problem on thousands of camaro SS's, I havent owned a Chevy since until I bought this 2012 SS, only 700 miles, no leaks (knock on wood) but if it develops the same problem I will give this car back to GM and demand a refund.!!!!!!!!! And if your rear main is leaking you should to.

I just noticed a small puddle of oil in my garage. It's good to know this isn't too uncommon.

I had my oil cooler and seals replaced. About 3 months later had it up on a lift and noticed more oil leaking again. Took it back in and they replaced just the oil cooler seal this time. Mechanic also put dye in the oil. I am taking it back in on Monday so he can check again for leaks. Hopefully it is solved, but we will see.

I apologize for any inconveniences that you may be experiencing with this issue. If you could please let me know how service goes, I will be able to take note of it and enter it into our database where several departments of GM can access the information.

Dealer said everything looked good and there were no leaks. I understand this was a problem on early Camaros, and as long as they fix it I am not mad about it. Hopefully this is really the last fix for it though. Thanks for the response! OP, sorry to thread jack.

My rear seal went out on my 2010 SS last year at 6,000 miles. Fixed it and no more problems

I found oil on the garage again. Took the car to a local dealer and I looked under the engine. All seals looked dry but noticed oil coming from the hollow frame support below the engine. I'm hoping it was just the oil that was trapped in there after the pan was dropped. I'll keep everyone posted.

My warranty is up in January. This was my 4th trip to the dealer because of this issue. If it really is leaking, what then? Regards
