OD cog without Tune

While my car is in the shop for some upgrades I plan on switching my 1:1 rear cog on the TVS2300 to a OD cog and also swapping my hi flow cats (kook Lt's) to kooks catless.

My tuner wants me to drive about 500+ miles break in period before getting on the dyno and tuning... telling me it is fine on current conservative tune as long as I'm not punching it and getting into boost. (Ls3 with tvs2300, stage 1 PD cam, FIC850cc, ZL1pump, FPCM, CAI, 550rwhp at 6psi)

Question: Am I safe driving with the added pulley and no tune update? until the break in miles.
Driving to work stop n go? longer freeway trips?

Od's add about 3 psi... boost kicks in around ~3k. Catless shouldn't make much of any diff over the kooks hiflows.

Question... What needs to be broken in?

I would tune it right away. Not a chance in the world I could not put my foot into anything I drive. Why chance it.

You need a different tuner

I am agreeing with the first two gents that commented. LOL, 6 psi and now going to 9 psi? There is nothing to break in. On a good day I can fart 9 psi. Tune that sucker and go haul azzz.

The break in period is for the new forged pistons, ring , rods, bearings, etc.

I was just planning on swapping my rear cog pulleys at the same time but wondering if it would be safe to drive (steady under 3k shifts) with the added boost in the meantime.

If the answer is definitely no than I guess I just need to go through his break in period before swapping pulleys.
Its just that the rear cogs on the maggies are a PITA.

Ahh, well apologies to your tuner, lol. Your paying the speed shop for the install and their expertise so ask them about when is the right time to install the cog. Just sayin.

Tuner answer:
"Removing cats and running a -3.2 piston should make it more like a 2 psi gain but with slightly lower compression so it should be fine for break in. You should not be running it WOT during break in anyway."

Leave the rear drive alone and switch it right before the new tune. It doesn't take long to change it over?
