you need to make sure when you tighten the exhaust you push it up off of the tunnel brace so there is some space. Just loosen your exhaust connections and hold it up and should solve your problem

if it keeps touching it will trick the computer into pulling timing. make sure it gets fixed, just a spacer or two can do it

Buy some fender shims from a restoration shop. They are U shaped, loosen the 4 bolts and slide them in and tighten it down. You want to get the exhaust up as far as you can too. I still needed to shim it.
The other guy is right, the car will read the rattle as a knock and pull timing. |

If the flowmaster exhaust is 3", it will rub on the tunnel brace. You can also get an aftermarket tunnel brace which will alleviate this problem.
(Spacers work too, but the aftermarket braces are pretty). LOL |

Mine is a 3" flowmaster AMT. Mine don't rattle. I just lifted with a jack and then tightened everything down. The only small "rattle" I have is from the transmission vent tube. It doesn't happen all the time tho. You may have to adjust a couple of times. Keep at it you will get it.

A few spacers from the local hardware store are a hell of a lot cheaper than an aftermarket brace. You might spend two whole dollars.

Agreed. I just used 3 washers on each bolt (plenty of threading left)--problem solved.
